Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:
Barry Zito (Giants) Probably the biggest start of the year for Zito will come on Tuesday night as he faces the Rockies who they trail in the wild card. He will face off against Ubaldo Jimenez who is just having a fantastic year and is part of our notables below. However, Zito has the best numbers over his last 5 starts going 1-1 with a 1.84 ERA and 1.26 ERA. Zito will make his 4th start against the Rockies while Jimenez will be making his 5th. Jimenez has excellent numbers 29 IP 8 ER but has lost both road games vs. the Giants while Zito has been even better winning both home games where he is tonight and losing the road game, which was not his fault. He has 21.1 IP allowing just 1 ER and 13 hits. This is mostly to do with the Rockies inability to hit LHP on the road. On the road this year they are hitting .215, that's .33pts lower than their RHP average. Along with that they are scoring just 3.18 runs per 9 innings vs. LHP on the road 1.36 runs per 9 less than RHP. Trouble is what the Rockies have right now as in their last 5 they are hitting just .129 and scoring 2.89 runs per 9 innings. They have to change their strategy against Zito because it has not worked all year long. Jimenez is the favorite here today and the Rockies are 7-0 in his last 7 games as a favorite. Notables - Last 5 Starts! Tommy Hanson (2-1, 0.93 WHIP, 2.25 ERA) Adam Wainwright (4-0, 0.94 WHIP, 2.45 ERA) Ubaldo Jimenez (3-1, 1.11 WHIP, 2.68 ERA) Jeff Niemann (2-0, 1.16 WHIP, 2.55 ERA) John Lackey (2-2, 1.10 WHIP, 2.89 ERA) Most likely to sustain and win: Adam Wainwright Probable Cold Starting Pitchers: Zach Duke (Pirates) Duke has really struggled as of late as he has a 1-4 record with a 1.94 WHIP and 7.57 ERA in his last 5 starts. Most of those runs coming in two starts one vs. the Cubs and one vs. the Brewers where he gave up a total of 15 ER. I do expect Duke to pitch better tonight, but he will have to go up against the Dodgers and the return of Randy Wolf. What does that mean? It means no run support again for Duke. The Pirates are one of the worst hitting teams vs. LHP on the road and they don't have success against Wolf. Pirates are 13-41 in their last 54 road games vs. LH starters and they are scoring just 2.08 runs per 9 in their last 5 vs. LHP and 3.23 on the road this year! While the Dodgers are much better at home vs. LHP with a .279 average +.19 compared to what they do against RHP. Same goes for runs per 9 innings with 4.96 and +.56/9 more than their RHP averages at home. Wolf and Duke have two starts in 08 against the opponents here tonight. Duke's numbers 11IP 19H 8ER and 3BB while Wolf is much more impressive with 14 IP 4 ER on 7H. Notables - Last 5 Starts! Garrett Mock (1-3, 1.46 WHIP, 6.57 ERA) Fausto Carmona (1-3, 1.94 WHIP, 6.85 ERA) ************************************************** ************************* ( Baseball System) PLAY AGAINST all underdogs with a money line of +175 to +250 like Pittsburgh, who can’t hit a lick batting .250 or worse over their last 20 games, against a hot starting pitcher with WHIP of 1.000 or less over his last five starts. This isn’t your everyday system at 70-5, 93.3 percent the last five years. ( Baseball Trend ) Roy Oswalt and the Astros are 44-7 vs. teams whose hitters strike out seven or more times a game in the second half of the season, winning by THREE runs per game. ( Baseball Pick) Ken of the LCC is 14-4 in all sports since Saturday (6-0 in MLB) and views Tampa Bay trumping Baltimore. Last edited by mickey; 09-15-2009 at 03:45 PM. Reason: added info: |
