So much for Boston being a lock for the American League wild card.
It was thought (and I have written saying the same thing) that the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were locks for the playoffs, with one winning the division and the other getting the wild card.
But not so fast, says the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are within three games of the Red Sox for the wild card and have won five straight games while the Red Sox have lost five straight. In the last 10 games, the Rays have won eight and Boston has won only two.*
Because of Boston's slide, the Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem have also moved into the picture. They are 5.5 games back in the wild card, but sit three games back of the division lead (behind Texas).
There's only a few weeks left in the season -- 16 games, to be exact. If Boston can't hold on to the wild card lead, it would be a major collapse.
What do you think? Will Boston hold on? Or will the Rays complete the comeback?

hugeeeeeee 4 game series in boston starting on thursday... if boston takes 3 of 4, its over ... but if tampa can manage to take 3 of 4, or even split 2-2, it should get very interesting the final 2 weeks (10 games)
