As a Sox diehard, I don't bet on or against the Sox, but out of all the games played so far this season, if I was going to bet AGAINST the Sox, tonight would be the night.
I say that because as we all know Price has had big problems against the Yankees, and the game is so so important to them(Yankees) if they have any hope at all of catching the Sox-a two game swing in the standings means a lot even at this relatively early juncture.
I will of course be elated if I am wrong and the Sox win, and at the very least will get the shovel out to hopefully start digging the hole to bury the Yankees.

When things are going right for a team, they win games like this.
I sure hope there is no letdown in the next seven games on the road against the Blue Jays and Orioles.
Imo it will take some kind of monumental collapse like in 2011 for the Yankees to catch them or for Yankees to win the overwhelming number of games left between the two teams.

I have been arguing with Yankee fans all year that Boone is awful with the bullpen, I actually thought Britton was gonna give up a run or 2 also. You can not keep these guys from pitching for 5 days they need to stay sharp just like everyone else.

William Hill offered the Red Sox at +1300 when trailing 4-1 in the 9th inning last night.

As a big Sox fan since the early 50ís, imo the present version of this team and their record is truly outstanding.
However in all fairness at least some of their success must be attributed to the fact that there are some truly bad teams against whom the Sox have feasted.
Even though it is quite onvious that they are going to have a significantly higher number of wins than the 2003 and the 2004, 2007 and 2013 championship teams, I am not so sure that on paper than the 2003 and 2004 and 2007 teams as imo there werenít as many
have not teams as now.
For example even though they have done better of late, the bottom third of the Sox lineup is nothing to write home about.
Considering that they have fizzled in first round of the last two seasons, they obviously have a lot to prove and tbat they truly are worthy of the incredible record complied so far.
My worst nightmare which is a distinct possibility is that they will face the Yankees in first round when the latter have all of their players and lose.
Sale and Price will have to step it up
in the playoffs for sure for them to successfully compete against the steep opposition they will face and where regular season records donít mean a thing.

JD Martinez has been spectacular. He was the 1 FA I wanted and he has done nothing but deliver day after day after day. He has taken the leadership role in the clubhouse and the other players absolutely love him too.

He is the difference maker on this team and he is filling the hole they had last year without Ortiz.

The stuff you mention about leadership and inspiration is exactly the kind of stuff with other intangibles which imo Trout lacks and one reason why his teams never go anywhere despite all of the physical talent and skills he possesses.

Jose Ramirez, Mike Trout and Mookie Betts all have a shot at cracking 10 WAR, which makes their battle for AL MVP a historic competition. According to baseball-reference.com, there has been only one season in which three position players cracked double digits in WAR. That was 1927: Lou Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Babe Ruth. There have been only three 10-WAR seasons this entire decade -- two by Trout and one by Bryce Harper. Despite this, don't sleep on J.D. Martinez's MVP candidacy. The guy has a shot at the Triple Crown. That shouldn't necessarily win the MVP award for him, but it did so a few years ago for Miguel Cabrera.

Bo sox having a historic year...Question is What are you guys going to do in the playoffs when it comes to starters?

Are you really going to throw Price out there twice?????

And dont say Sale cause he has been rocked in 2 playoff appearances 8.38 ERA.. Small sample size but Sale wears down dramatically as the year goes on if you look at his career stats

And this isnt coming from a "hater" I do hate the Pats and I dislike Brady, but the Redsox have been my 2nd favorite team behind the cubs since I started watching baseball... from the days of Rice, Freddy Lynn, Dwight Evans, Boggs, Eck and Oil can Boyd

Oh, so they should bench Sale? I mean seriously, stop being ridiculous for once. It is 2 appearances.

Mike Trout got swept in his lone playoff series and went 1 for 13. Should they be worried or bench him the next time they get in?

Your reasoning is beyond ridiculous at times. I'll tell you the easy answer. You start the guys that got you there and hope they pitch well.

Im I writing in Greek cause you seen to get a different understanding from what i type.

Who said bench Sale...dont be ridiculous

I also said " SMALL SAMPLE SIZE"

Price's sample size tho is not small.

He is the best auto fade in the playoffs .

I was just stating..they have to pitch Price twice..hopefully they score 8 plus runs in those games...and with Sale's numbers declining historically as the season goes on...its very worrisome

^^^ So by definition I cannot say Sale, so I guess I need to pick 3 other starters? According to you, yes. And that is being Ridiculous. Sale will start every game possible and if his ass gets rocked, it gets rocked. He is their ride or die and the fans are all on board with that!

As great as the team is....if i was a fan...and I will be unless my money is on another team or if they are playing the Cubs I would be very worried about starting pitching in the playoffs. Common Wayne ..Price is the laughing stock of badeball when it comes to the playoffs

Sale career

1st half - 2.66 era
2nd half - 3.21 era

Worst month - Sept/Oct 3.78 Era ---> Yes, off the charts horrible

I wonder if it has anything to do with him playing with the CWS minor league team every September and not giving a shit.

And the Cubs were the laughing stock of baseball until 2 years ago right? Who gives a fuck, you still cheer for your team and a players success can come at any time.

Some guys for whatever reason cant get it done on the playoffs

Some of the best pitchers of all time
Maddux (my fav pitcher of all time along with Clemens) Kershaw, Jack Morris all below average in the playoffs.

Guys like Schilling, Bumgarner and Smoltz are lights out

Price unfortunately is in another category of his own. Hopefully Sale doesnt join the club of elite pitchers not being elite in the playoffs. If that is the case (and im personally worried about it) the Redsox are going to need to score 8 runs a game to win (which they are fully capable...lol )
