Rios To The Chicago White Sox

For $200,000 Transfer Fee

Seems Like A Change Of Scenery Will Be Benefical For Rios.

Solid Pick Up

noles, contreras and dye coming off the books next year almost make this a wash

you could argue that peavy & rios equal to or better package than contreras & dye

just saying, feel free to discuss

jose rios would be about 50 now, though he probably could fit into their pitching staff as a #4 or 5. alex rios is a lot younger and throws a lot softer.

As a Blue Jay fan my honest opinion is that he is going to be a very good fit in Chicago. What they will be looking from him isn't what the Jays were looking from him. Put him at the top of the order, tell him that he doesn't have to worry about being the man to drive in the runs just be the man to get the offense going from the top of the lineup and I think you are going to end up with a very strong part of your offense and a pretty damn good outfielder with a cannon for an arm. Cannon for an arm, speed and very good at stealing bases, great range in the outfield and having Ozzie as his manager I think you will get a more mentally prepared player and will be able to pop a few homeruns here and there and will probably be more productive being utilized as this type of player than what the Jays were trying to make him into which was the man along with Vernon to be the middle of the order punch which is not his forte in my opinion.

Rios really been struggling all year, clearly a good player but with the economy the way this deal is way off numbers of today, even if he was a very good player most GM's would have a hard time agree to bring in the entire contract, why not wait till the offseason and make a deal for him, the OF's are not the problem for the Sox's, Pods has produce, Dye has produced and Quentin is starting to heat up, I just dont understand this deal at all

The Jake Peavy deal seemed like a good thing in the early Summer time but in July not so much, you trade 4 good youngsters and one thats been producing for you most of the year and trade him for somebody that can sit on the DL most of the 2nd half, neither deal does anything for me IMO....

Also, you have to take into Consideration this probably takes you out of the chase for Aroldis Chapmon from Cuba....they say that the White Sox were the top suitors because of the great ties with his agent and 2 Cubans on the team currently Contreras and Alexei Ramirez

you do realize that chapmon goes to the yankees right...lol

but i do agree with you on a few points.

peavy is actually going to be back in 2-3 weeks from everything i am hearing here. might pitch against yankees at end of the month. if they are within spitting distance of detroit in central with danks, buehrle, floyd, and peavy then that is a good september advantage.

to me though.....dye>rios, but rios younger and dye is leaving after this year

ye..will give bid home discount to stay..having ig offensive year

Thome may go, but he may be the biggest bargain ever i MLB history, as the Phillies have been paying him

so, Dye to 1st? Thome stays, PK goes?

This is a great move for the sox. You get to platoon pods dye and quentin with rios.Every one stays healthy hopefully. they did the same thing with griffey last year and let thome get off against lefties and dh 1 of them. As far as money goes contreras dye pods thome danks are all free agents after the year so you got rios and peavy with beckam alexi getz and were still real young next year Why not go for it this year?
