SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS VS OAKLAND ATHLETICS

The Bay Bridge Series continues again tonight and across the bay in oakland as the A's look to bounce back from the sweep that the Giants put to them june 12th-june 14th ....in that series the A's were outscored 15-3 , batted 16 for 93 (.172 ave) and gave 2 complete games to matt cain and tim lincecum... The giants batted 25-92(.271) in that series and have won the last 5 meetings against oakland after losing 9 out of 10 prior.....

Oakland has to feeling good that they are home after their 10 day 9 road games with the national league...where they went 3-6..... they start rookie Trevor Cahill in his first taste of the Bay Bridge Series.... Cahill is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA over his last three starts and the A's have won all three of those games. He beat Los Angeles in Dodger Stadium this past Wednesday after giving up 2 unearned runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings.....The 21-year-old has allowed two runs or fewer in nine of his first 14 starts in the majors and is 3-4 (3.67 ERA) in eight mound appearances at home in the Coliseum.

San Francisco throws slumping left hander Jonathon Sanchez (2-7 record) with a 5.43 era who has lost 3 straight outings...he has a mind-boggling 7.36 ERA in his last 4 starts and lasted just 4 2/3 innings or less 3 times in those games..... Last Tuesday he was rocked for seven runs (6 earned) and 10 hits over just 3 2/3 frames in a loss to the Angels. he is 0-6 on the season on the road with a 6.39 era and opponents batting ave of .395

Sanchez has made 6 career appearances against oakland , including 1 winning start against Oakland and owns a 1-0 record with a 2.03 ERA over those games. That lone start came at the Coliseum last season with Sanchez yielding just 1 run on 4 hits through 7 innings.

final thought : this game and series is being celebrated by the A's for their world series sweep of the giants.... those were the oakland a's bash brother days with rickey henderson and dave parker... both games prior to the earthquake in oakland went under the total and after the quake in sf the games flew over the total..... in the earlier june 12-14th series this season these two teams played under the total in sf , so the theory here is that this game will go over the total......

with jonathon sanchez having problems this year especially on the road i expect the a's horrible lineup to muster some runs with the extra hitter in the lineup.... they averaged 4.2 runs on the road against la and sd after being swept by these giants, not to mention that the a's average 4.59 run support for cahill and bring in 4.7 at home this year....

the giants as a team have batted .265 in the month of june and over the last 7 days .261 .....they averaged 4.1 in the 9 games played at home... they come into this game off a sweep of the texas rangers and whats more important is that aaron rowand is hitting.... with him starting to get hot and the big bats of sandoval and molina i think that this game easily gets over the posted total of 8..... i also believe that the emotion will feed both teams tonight and imo they dont want another pitching duel series....i expect this game and at least one more in this series to go over the total.....

unfortunately for the a's tonight those runs they muster wont be enough as san francisco will continue this years dominance with a high scoring big win!!!!!!
