RUDY NYC Sports MLB Play of the Day(09-04):

7:05 PM EDT
919 New York Yankees - J Chamberlain OVER 8.5 +100
920 Toronto Blue Jays - R. Halladay UNDER 8.5 -120
The play: OVER 8.5 +100
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's start today's psych session by focusing on Joba Chamberlain, a starting pitcher who is only allowed to throw so many innings this season...what is with that anyway? Truth is, the Yankee brass may be saving his arm at the expense of playing with his head. It has shown in the results, especially most recently. Joba has an ERA of 9.75 and a WHIP of 2.17 over his last three games. Eight of his last ten games have gone OVER. Against the Blue Jays this season, he has given up 12 runs, 7 earned, in 9 2/3 innings.

Now our next psych patient: Roy (Doc) Halladay. Roy H. used to be a Yankee killer. But this is not your daddy's Doc. You are trading me, no I am staying, ok trade me, can't get much, ok, I'll stay...kind of sounds like Brett Favre! But seriously, how is a pitcher supposed to keep his head in the game after all of that? He has had troubles, as evidenced in his recent numbers: last 3 games, ERA of 7.94 and a WHIP of 1.82. This Yankee team is not the right spot for the good Doctor to "right his ship".

Now the gravy: Jeff Nelson is behind the dish tonight. Nelson is 17-8-1 OVER (3-1 in domes) this season permitting 10.8 runs! The Yankees are hitting .317 and have scored over 8 runs during the current 7 game winning streak. Chad Gaudin, last night's NY starter, went 3.2 innings, thus causing the Yanks to use their better relievers. Riviera is probably still out (planned rest before the postseason?). The Yankees recently called up four no name relievers and we can expect to see them tonight. Similarly, Ricky Romero went 4 1/3 innings and the Jays had to go deep into the pen.

Finally, the OVER is 6-2-1 the last ten head-to-head. We think this one will go OVER easy even if Roy H. shows some improvement tonight which, of course, is unlikely.

GL to all,
RUDY
