San Diego's Adrain Gonzalez Wants Mark Teixeira Money

Padres' Gonzalez looking for 'Teixeira money'
Adrian Gonzalez - 1B - SD - Mar. 2
Adrian Gonzalez's agent John Boggs doesn't "see any signs" of a contract extension with the Padres, reports Tim Sullivan of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Boggs said that he had preliminary discussion with Padres general manager Jed Hoyer, but the talks were so superficial that "you couldn’t characterize it as a negotiation." And when you compare the worth of your client to the $180 million Mark Teixeira made with the Yankees, you can probably understand why they began to shy away. That's not to say Gonzalez isn't worthy of a big contract, only that the Padres will not be the club to give it to him. With any luck, the Padres will be able to find a similar haul to what the Rangers got for Teixeira at the trade deadline during the 2007 season.

he wn't get it, yankees control the market, if they aren't buying (which they won't be) the 180 million is an unreachable number

fangraphs compared the two, gonzo compares favorably to teixiera in most major statistical areas, and is slightly better on the defensive side of the ball

so he may have 180 million dollar talent, but i'm seein no more than 120 sans yankees
