Cincinnati Reds vs St. Louis Cardinals

Cincinnati will start Bronson Arroyo who is 3-3 with a 3.68 era. St Louis will start Kyle Lohse who is 4-2 with a 2.24 era. The Reds welcome the Cardinals to Great American Ballpark today for the first of a three game series. Bronson Arroyo has not fared well against the Cardinals losing his last three starts to them posting an era just over 8. Meanwhile Kyle Lohse has posted great numbers in his last three starts against Cincinnati going 1-1 with a 1.80 era....BUT all of them were at Busch Stadium. Lohse will face a team that is second in the league in runs only behind the Cardinals themselves. Both of these teams can rake, but Lohse is 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA at Great American Ballpark. I know Lohse has been very good this year but he was a disaster in the month of May last year going 1-3 with a 5.33 era and already has one loss this month. On the other side, Arroyo pitched very well in May going 4-1 with a 3.89 era. Arroyo has had some bad luck with the bullpen blowing some leads for him but the Cards bullpen is just as bad. This will be a tough battle until the 6th or 7th and then the bullpens will take over. The Reds got the day off yesterday, and the Cardinals just lit up the Cubs. I think the Reds given the extra day off will win today at home. Reds are 7-1 in their last 8 games following a loss. Reds are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter. Cardinals are 2-9 in Lohses last 11 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
