Snell / deGromm

I haven't seen seasons like this since Maddux, Clemens and Pedro

Shame Sale missed 6-7 starts...he would be in the conversation also if he kept up the season he was having

Verlander pitching just as well as Snell if not better.

Also this is an insult to Pedro Martinez who probably had some of the greatest pitched seasons of all time in the height of the steroid era.

Nobody today can touch Pedro's jock

Great seasons but lets not go back to Clemens etc since we lost saw seasons like this. Kershaw in 2013 and 2014 come to mind right off the bat.

Pitchers with dominant second half's often get the nod, and no one has been better than Snell

8-0 with a 1.26 ERA and a 0.740 WHIP since the Break.

Fewest IP for a SP who won the Cy Young Award is 198.1 (Kershaw in 2014)(excludes strike years)

Sale 150 IP
Snell 169 IP
Verlander 202 IP
Kluber 203 IP

Many think Volume matters and will still ignore what Snell has accomplished

Teams keep babying these pitchers and I dont see any clear evidence that it makes a difference come playoff time.

I prefer Verlander this year but I don't think anyone can go crazy if Sale, Snell or Kluber wins.

I think DeGrom has a bit of separation in the NL

How am I insulting Pedro when I am calling him one of the top 3 GOATS of the last 40 years.

I am not saying either of these guys are equal to the 3 i mentioned. I just noted that the numbers they have put up this year remind me of seasons ( they had multiple seasons) that these guys used to have

For God sakes Maddux ERA in a 3 year strech was 1.53 , 1,66 and 2.18
Im not sure we will ever see that again

Snell vs Red Sox: 3-0, 1.08 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, .157 BAA in 25 IP
2-0 in two starts vs Astros, 1.26 ERA
2-0 in two starts vs Indians, 1.32 ERA
ERA above 6 in three starts vs Yankees though

Jacob deGrom has held opponents to three runs or less in 28 straight starts. Nobody in MLB history has ever done that.

Jacob deGrom has thrown 23 consecutive quality starts. Nobody in MLB history has ever done that.

If deGrom loses out to Scherzer or Nola it would be as idiotic as when the voters gave the Cy Young to a mediocre Steve Bedrosian in 1987 over a dominant Nolan Ryan because he had a losing record for an absolute dog shit Astros team.

In his last 9 starts Snell is 9-0 with 74 strikeouts and a 1.03 ERA

The only other pitchers in MLB history to match or exceed those numbers over a 9-start span are Johan Santana (2004) and Bob Gibson (1968)

Both were unanimous Cy Young winners.

8 Yankees pitches yielded a combined 2 hits and 1 run to the Rays.

Sonny Gray gave up both hits and the run. He was awarded the win.

He is 11-9, not in the rotation and has a 4.98 ERA ... deGrom is 9-9 with a 1.77 ERA

Perfect example of why pitcher wins are almost completely meaningless

deGrom is making his last scheduled start of the season tonight.

He could allow 15 earned runs, without recording an out, and still own the best ERA in the National League.

Great insight brought up last night ...

If the Mets had scored 4 runs in each of deGrom’s starts, he would be 30-0

If they had scored 3, he’d be 25-1

If they had scored 2, he’d be 20-6

"I dont understand how you can argue that his win-loss record is indicative of his pitching ability"

Heard this on the radio MLB Network. DeGrom leads the NL in ERA. In 2nd place is the guy opposing DeGrom.

Basically what that says is if you tallied up the every start opposite DeGrom its the 2nd lowest ERA in the NL

Jacob deGrom

3 runs or less in 29 straight starts (longest ever)

24 straight quality starts (longest ever)

Season is officially in the books ...

His final start ...

8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K

His season ...

217 IP, 1.70 ERA, 269 K

It was, by any stretch, one of the best seasons by a pitcher in modern MLB history.

Unbelievable.

Since MLB lowered the mound in 1969, only two other pitchers have thrown 210+ innings with an ERA that low ...

Zack Greinke, 1.66 in 2015
Doc Gooden, 1.53 in 1985

deGrom is the 7th pitcher in the live-bell era (since 1920) to post an ERA of 1.70 ERA or lower and hold opponents to a sub-.200 AVG

Dean Chance (1964)
Bob Gibson (1968)
Luis Tiant (1968)
Nolan Ryan (1981)
Greg Maddux (1995)
Zack Greinke (2015)
Jacob deGrom (2018)
