SOB Offseason moves

Same old Bucs..........................

The Pirates appear to have interest in P Joe Beimel, SS Adam Everett, and SS Bobby Crosby. They are not intensely pursuing Texas Ranger Hank Blalock, and they are not pursuing slugging OF Russell Branyan.

The Pirates are on the verge of their first major offseason move, which would be the signing of Oakland infielder Bobby Crosby.

Crosby is a lifetime .239 hitter and has not reached double-digit home runs since hitting 22 in that 2004 ROY season. It looks like another instance of a bargain-bin player trying to rehab his career in Pittsburgh. Try hard to contain your enthusiasm.

In other Pirate news, Ryan Doumit might be a Toronto Blue Jay very soon, according to the PG's Dejan Kovacevic.

"The team is touting its price freeze as the longest active stretch by any major league team." Which is only fair, considering it also has the longest active stretch of losing seasons in league history

Hadn't heard this one. What is being offered do you know? Being a Jays fan I would not be that dissappointed in getting Doumit.

2009 Penguins/Steelers World Champions

What is being offered do you know?

Foxsports.com reported on Wednesday that the Jays have a 'mild' interest in the 28-year old, but talks have yet to reach a serious stage.

The Pirates have officially announced the signing of free-agent shortstop Bobby Crosby. The terms are one year at $1 million plus as much as $500,000 in bonuses based on plate appearances.

The Pirates decided to non-tender pitchers Matt Capps and Phil Dumatrait this weekend, making them free agents. Dumatrait, owner of a 3-10 lifetime record with an equally bad 7.06 ERA, was not much of a surprise, but much of the baseball world is scratching their heads over the Capps move.

Capps, who converted 27 of 32 save attempts in 2009, had a 5.80 ERA in 57 appearances. He made $2.4 million and change last season, and in the wacky world of baseball finances, could've very possibly scored himself a raise in the arbitration process. The Buccos obviously did not want to go that route, and presto, they now need a closer. At least they didn't go through the formality of getting a player in return.

anyone need a closer,

The News
Among the teams interested in Matt Capps are the Rangers, Rockies, Marlins, Cardinals, Cubs and Diamondbacks, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View
So as expected, the hard-throwing 26-year-old righty is not lacking for suitors. With that kind of interest, expect him to land somewhere soon

There are supposedly 16 teams who have contacted the agent of Matt Capps, including...the Pittsburgh Pirates. But don't fret. I'm sure they'll outbid 15 other franchises for a guy they just nickel-and-dimed (at least in baseball finances).
