Atlanta Braves

-The Braves pitching staff had its 84.1-inning homerless streak snapped yesterday. Yesterday’s loss also snapped a string of 14 consecutive home games in which the Braves had allowed three or fewer runs.
-Atlanta is in a stretch of playing five of their next seven games in the daytime. The Braves are 23-16 in day games this season, including 16-2 at home and 7-14 on the road.
-Pitching staff leads the majors with just 87 home runs allowed on the year. The unit has also posted a 2.94 ERA since the All-Star break, which is the best mark in the National League.
-Rank fifth in the National League in runs scored (554), but thanks to their 3.42 staff ERA, their +106 run differential this season ranks second in the circuit (San Diego +124).
-The Braves are an MLB-best 44-17 at home this season and with 20 home games remaining, have easily eclipsed last year’s record (40-41).
-SP Jair Jurrjens is 0-4 with a 6.39 ERA in seven road starts, compared to 5-0 with a 1.83 ERA in seven outings at home.
-Jurrjens is 3-11 with a 3.82 ERA in 18 career starts against the NL Central.

Chicago Cubs

-Chicago is 3-7 in its last 10 games, 3-11 in their last 14 and 5-19 in their last 24 contests.
-Today’s SP Ryan Dempster is 4-1 with a 3.64 ERA in seven starts since the All-Star break. He has produced a 1.40 ERA in his last three outings.
-After homering in six of seven games, August 10-16, Chicago has gone three-straight games without a long ball.
-Team has scored 79 runs in 18 August games, with 37 of those runs, coming in the seventh inning or later.
-The Cubs have dropped seven-straight home games for the first time since a nine-game skid in 2006. Overall, the team has gone 1-10 in its last 11 home games since July 25, hitting .235 with a 5.17 ERA in that stretch.
-Dempster is holding left-handed batters to a .229 batting average, which is the seventh-lowest in the NL.

San Francisco Giants

-Beginning July 5, San Francisco has posted a 27-14 record which is the 2nd-best winning percentage in the majors behind Minnesota (26-13).
-The Giants are averaging 3.6 runs per game this month for the fourth-lowest average in the NL. They have scored three-or-less runs in 11 of their 17 games in August.
-SP Jonathan Sanchez’s victory last night snapped a streak of 14 consecutive games without a win by their starting pitcher.
-San Francisco is 2-4 in the current 12-game stretch in which they play games against opponents that are in the heart of the playoff picture.
-The team has lost six of its last eight road games, but they’ve still won 16 of their last 25.
-SP Madison Bumgarner has allowed 13 hits in 62 at-bats to left-handed hitters, giving up just four extra base hits.
-Bumgarner has gone 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA over his last four starts with opponents hitting for a .333 average. He has received four runs of support in his last four games after averaging 6.64 runs in his first six contests.

Seattle Mariners

-The Mariners continue a four-city, 12-game trip with Game #1 of 3 at New York. The trip began in Cleveland (2-1) and Baltimore (2-1) and concludes in Boston.
-Seattle is 9-7 in August and has won two straight games. The team finished July 6-22 after posting a winning record in June (14-13).
-Over its past 12 games, the Mariners bullpen has allowed just 8ER on 20 hits in 31 innings, giving them a 2.32 ERA.
-Today is the eighth (3-4) of 10 games between the Yankees and Mariners this season.
-Seattle has won its last four series, a season-high.
-The Mariners are 13-for-57 with men in scoring position (.228) in the first six games of this trip.
-The pitching staff has a 2.91 ERA versus the AL East this season compared to 3.85 versus the Central and 4.63 against the West.
-Seattle is 13-15 overall against the AL East division this season and tonight is the fourth of nine straight versus the East (2-1).
-Mariners SP Felix Hernandez has thrown three consecutive complete games against the Yankees and is the first pitcher to do so since 1990-91.

Tampa Bay Rays

-The Rays are currently 5.5 games up on Boston in the Wild Card race, while also spending 73 of 137 days in first place this season.
-Tampa Bay had its five-game winning streak snapped last night and are in a stretch of playing 10 straight games against the AL West. Compiled a 14-7 record against the AL West this season, 7-1 at home, 7-6 on the road).
-The Rays are 17-9 since July 24 and 30-15 since June 30.
-The club still owns the best road record in the majors at 35-23 (.603), but have lost five of their last seven games. The Rays 35 wins are already the third-highest road win total in club history.
-Tampa Bay is 3-15 on Fridays this season and has lost 13 of their last 14 games on that day of the week.
-SP Jeremy Hellickson is the first player in the modern era to pitch at least six innings, allowing three hits or less in each of his first three major league appearances.

Baltimore Orioles

-The Orioles have won five straight against the Rangers and lead the season series, 5-2, going 1-0 in Baltimore and 4-2 in Arlington.
-Baltimore has scored four or more runs in 11 of Jake Arrieta’s 13 starts.
-At 11-7, the team is on pace for its first winning month since they went 15-12 in June of 2008. The last time the Orioles recorded a winning month in August was 1997.
-The Birds are 11-6 in their last 17 games, their best stretch since June 2-20, 2008 when they went 12-5 in a 17-game span.
-Baltimore is 9-2 in its last 11 games against the AL West, including a four-game sweep at Texas and a three-game sweep of the Angels.
-In his only career start against Texas on July 11 in Arlington, Arrieta completed the four-game sweep of the Rangers by allowing just a single run over 6.1 innings.
