Baltimore Orioles
-The Orioles are playing the first game of a six-game, seven-day road trip that will also send them to Detroit.
-Baltimore trails 2-10 in the season series, posting a 2-4 record in Baltimore and 0-6 in New York. The Orioles have lost 17 of their last 19 games in the Bronx.
-The club is 14-23 in day games this season and are 17-27 in the series opening game. Baltimore is actually 8-2 in series opening games under current manager Buck Showalter.
-In 105 games prior to Showalter coming on, pitchers posted a 5.18 ERA, the highest mark in the American League. In 32 games since, Birds hurlgers have pitched a 3.64 ERA, the fourth-lowest mark in the AL in that span.
-Catcher Matt Wieters has hit safely in seven consecutive games, hitting .458 with five RBI during that stretch.
-The Orioles are 14-40 versus AL East opponents this year, including a 7-32 mark against all teams other than Boston.
-Baltimore is 24-18 in one-run games this season.
-SP Brian Matusz is 1-3 with a 2.10 ERA in four career starts versus the Yankees, including a 1-2 record and 1.37 ERA at Yankee Stadium in three outings.

Chicago White Sox
-Chicago has won six straight games as they continue a 10-day, 11-day trip in Detroit. The White Sox have used 90 different lineups this year.
-SP Edwin Jackson is 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA in five starts with Chicago, as he takes the mound in the series opener. He has struck out at least 10 batters in each of his last three outings.
-Team has compiled an MLB-best 52-27 record since June 9, but just 26-22 following a 26-5 run from June 9 to July 15.
-OF Manny Ramirez is a career .308 hitter with 26 home runs and 93 RBI in 128 career games against Detroit. He owns a .250 average at Comerica Park.
-The White Sox are 65-38 versus Detroit since the start of the 2005 season, including a 32-19 mark at Comerica Park.
-Chicago owns a 3.70 against Detroit during that span, including a 3.38 ERA at Comerica Park.
-Scored 18 of its 23 runs after the sixth inning in the last five games. The White Sox have outscored their opponents 206-177 in the seventh inning or later this season.
-Jackson has yet to allow a run in the first five innings of his first five starts with the White Sox.

Atlanta Braves
-The Braves open up a three-game series at PNC Park, as the club is 5-1 versus the Pirates this season, including 2-1 at this venue.
-First baseman Derek Lee celebrates his 35th birthday today. In 12 birthday contests, Lee is batting .333 with five home runs and 16 RBI.
-The club’s road record fell to 30-39 following yesterday’s 7-6, 10-inning defeat to the Marlins. Over their last 21 road games, the Braves have gone 8-13, including 1-5 in their last six road contests.
-INF Omar Infante has batting leadoff 41 times this season, batting .341 with 16 multi-hit efforts.
-Catcher Brian McCann is batting .455 with three home runs and eight RBIs over his last nine games.
-SP Tommy Hanson is 4-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 13 starts away from Turner Field. He is making his first career start versus the Pirates.
-Five of Hanson’s last seven starts have been 7.0 innings of more (0-4, 2.84 ERA).

Chicago Cubs
-Begin a three-game series against the Houston Astros after taking two-of-three against the Mets this weekend. This is the seventh of a nine-game, 10-day homestand against the Pirates (2-1) and Mets (2-1).
-The Cubs are 77-107-4 on Labor Day, including a 29-40-2 mark at Wrigley Field, dropping their last three at home.
-Chicago is 3-1 in its last four series dating back to August 23. Prior to that, the Cubs had gone 1-7 in eight series.
-The Cubs are 8-4 in their first 12 games under new manager, Mike Quade. In those 12 contests, Cubs pitchers have recorded a 2.25 ERA in the eight victories, while logging a 9.79 ERA in the four setbacks.
-Team is batting .341 in its last seven games, collecting 10 or more hits in each contest.
-Lead the majors with a .292 average against left-handed starters, way ahead of the second-place Florida Marlins (.280).
-SP Casey Coleman is making his fourth career start today, after going 28-16 with a 3.73 ERA in 60 minor league games.
-Coleman is 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in three starts, while posting a 8.64 ERA in four relief outings.

Houston Astros
-Houston has won 11 of 14 and 16 of their last 23 games.
-The Astros 2.31 team ERA since August 13 is the lowest in the majors, while the club’s 16-7 record since that date ranks 2nd-best in the majors.
-Since June 24, SP Wandy Rodriguez is 8-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 13 starts, which is the second-lowest amongst NL starters in that span (Latos - SD).
-Houston is 8-4 versus Chicago this season, including a 4-2 mark at Wrigley Field.
-OF Carlos Lee has 34 RBI in his last 35 games, the most in the majors in that span.
-Own a 29-39 overall road record, but have won eight of their last 11 games away from Minute Maid Park.
-The Astros are 22-21 in day games this season.
-In the last 13 games, Houston is hitting .310 with runners in scoring position.
-Rodriguez’s 1.34 ERA in August was tops in the NL. The left-hander is 2-3 with a 6.14 ERA in eight games at Wrigley Field.

Texas Rangers
-The Rangers lost to the Twins, 6-5 on Sunday, as the club is now 2-4 on its current 10-game, 11-day road trip.
-Texas is 25-23 since the All-Star break, which is the sixth-best mark in the AL, including the best in the West.
-Team lost two games in the division over the weekend and enter today’s game with an eight-game lead on the Athletics.
-Three of the Rangers last four games have been decided by one run, with the team posting a 24-20 mark in such games this season.
-The Rangers have dropped 11 of 15 and 15 of their last 23 away from home. The club has gone 8-5-1 in 14 road series since the beginning of June.
-Texas is 1-5 against Toronto this season, dropping five straight since an Opening Day, come-from-behind victory.
-Enter today’s game with an 0-6 mark on artificial surfaces this season.
-SP Tommy Hunter is 12-2 over 17 starts since making his season debut on June 5.
-Hunter has gone 5-2 with a 4.29 ERA in eight road starts.

Milwaukee Brewers
-The Brewers are 33-35 at home, going 11-11-0 in series play. They went 5-4 on their last homestand versus the Padres (2-1), Dodgers (0-3) and Pirates (3-0).
-1B Prince Fielder became just the second player in franchise history to produce 30+ homers in four consecutive seasons.
-Milwaukee has four players with 20+ home runs this season and look to have five players accomplish the feat in the same season for the fourth time in franchise history.
-The club has an even 31-31 record against the NL Central this season and if 5-9 on Mondays.
-SP Yovani Gallardo is 18-13 with a 3.41 ERA in 40 games, 39 starts at Miller Park. He is an even 5-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 13 starts this season.
-Gallardo is 0-4 with a 6.32 ERA in six starts versus the Cardinals, including a 0-2 mark and 8.22 ERA in two outings this season.
