Tampa Bay Rays
-The Rays remain in 2nd place for the seventh consecutive day, 2.5 games back of the first place Yankees. Tampa Bay is only one win shy of last season’s win total.
-Tampa Bay is 1-3 on this nine-game, 10-day AL East road trip that will conclude in Toronto following this set.
-Team has still won 14 of its last 22 overall and are 26-16 since July 24 and 39-22 since June 30.
-Lead the season series with the Red Sox 10-6, matching their most wins versus the Sox in one season. It marks the club’s third winning season over Boston in the 13-year rivalry. The Rays are 26-17 against Boston since June 30, 2008, after going 43-98 in the previous 141 games. TB is 29-18 under Joe Maddon against them.
-Closer Rafael Soriano has 41 saves this season, including 18 consecutive since his last blown save.
-SP David Price has 16 victories, which is tied for 2nd most in the AL behind only C.C. Sabathia (19).
-Price has held left-handed batters to a .216 average and only allowed one home run (Chase Utley in 2009).
-Price’s .187 opponents average with RISP is second-lowest in the AL behind Boston’s Clay Buchholz (.160).

Chicago Cubs
-Chicago is 3-1 in its last four series dating to August 23. Prior to that, the Cubs had gone 1-7 in eight series from July 26-August 22.
-The Cubs have 33 home wins with eight games at Wrigley Field remaining - the team has won 35 or more home games every season since 2000, after going 34-47 at home in 1999.
-Since the start of the 2008 season, Geovany’s Soto’s 51 home runs are the third-most among all catchers - trailing only Atlanta’s Brian McCann (64) and the Angels Mike Napoli (62).
-The Cubs are 9-4 in their first 13 games under new manager, Mike Quade. In those 13 contests, pitching staff has recorded a 2.44 ERA in the nine victories, while logging a 9.79 ERA in the four setbacks.
-Offense is hitting .336 in its last eight games, collecting 10 or more hits in seven of those contests, after hitting .209 in its previous four games.
