On the west coast the starting time is about 5 p.m. local time meaning the game starts with long shadows cast across the field and the batter has a terrible hitters background all sunlit while he bats in shadows. Those conditions make it more difficult to hit and during the first hour and a half or so of the game it will definitely be a factor. With the best pitchers in baseball on the mound we also have guys with nasty stuff pitching to guys at a disadvantage
