Tuesday's Play !! I Have To Start Winning Sometime, Right ??

Yello's thread from yesterday got me motivated this morning, so let's see if we can get something going here. Season thus far has been a mediocre, 7-10 (-$400).

For Tuesday, I like the Cubs at even money. Here's why:

The Cards start Chris Carpenter. The way he is going this year, they'd be better off with Karen Carpenter ! He is 0-2 on the year with a 4.19 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and a .268 BAA. In his last 2 starts he allowed 20 hits and 5 walks in 13 innings pitched. This year on the road his WHIP is 1.56, his ERA is 5.50 and his BAA is .311. At night this year his WHIP is 2.11, his ERA is a "holy shit" 7.94 (this is Chris Carpenter we are talking about here) and his BAA is .368. Against the Cubs last year he was 1-3 with a 4.20 ERA and .303 BAA. At Wrigley last year his WHIP was 1.68 and his BAA was .324.

Meanwhile, the Cubs start Carlos Zambrano. He is having a good year. He is 4-1 with a so-so ERA of 4.23 but a solid WHIP of 1.19 (he has cut down on the walks big time) and a BAA of .244. At home this year his WHIP is 1.05 and his BAA is .235. In 19 home innings, he has allowed only 16 hits and 4 walks, with 18 strikeouts. Against the Cards last year he was 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA and a .239 BAA. I have said this over and over again about Big Z. He is a MUCH different pitcher at night than in the day. This year his night ERA is 3.86 while his day ERA is 4.74. Last year at night his ERA was 2.08 and his BAA was .204. Last year in the day his ERA was 5.51 and his BAA was .311. Think this was a fluke ? Well, from 2008-2010, his night ERA was 2.94 and his BAA was .209, while in the day his ERA was 5.15 and his BAA was .304. No fluke there my friends.

The Cards have cooled off considerably lately (not that the Cubs are tearing it up), and I think there is definitely something wrong with Carpenter. The Cubs win this one tonight, as I hopefully get off the schneid.

Tuesday's play is the Cubs at even money.

I'm getting off the schneid tonight too, I'm sick of losing this season.
Cubs playing well, need to score a couple more runs for it to show in standings.
Don't forget what Theriot said in December, should really fire the Cubs up tonight.
