Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed Thursday that Adam Wainwright will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Tough break for the Cardinals and one of the game's most talented pitchers. Tommy John surgery usually requires 12 to 18 months of rehabilitation, so Wainwright won't be back on a major league mound until the first half of next season, at the earliest. The Cardinals plan to look at a number of internal options to replace him in the starting rotation, including Kyle McClellan, Ian Snell, Lance Lynn, Brian Tallet and Miguel Batista, but they could also be in the mix for free agents Kevin Millwood and Jeremy Bonderman. Either way, he's next to impossible to replace.

That article didn't really suggest Brian Tallet as a possible replacement, did it? He was bad in 2009 and got worse last year and really has only had one year where he started a lot of games.
