Why can't these professional hitters?

Learn to hit the ball the other way

These shifts nowadays are like having a rover in softball and it makes we want to when a MLB player can't learn to go the other way

Everytime I see a shift on, I think the same thing Yank.

I can't believe some of these hitters can't wait on the ball and hit it to the opposite field.

its been going on all year- situational hitting is going by the wayside. It seems like guys get stranded on third after being there with less than two outs, all the time- or at least the teams I am on

This is often a great idea even against normal defenses as deep as some 3b play, against the shift it should be a no brainer. Turning down an automatic base hit is literally like seeing money on the sidewalk and not bothering to pick it up.

But of course bunting won't make the highlights and it definitely won't get you $25m a year (hint hint Ryan Howard one of the biggest offenders) so I think we all know why you don't see it.

not a matter of "learning" to hit the other way or bunting against the shift.....like some of you have already addressed, they choose not to do so......managers are just as responsible for not making them do it in certain situations, but the main reason you don't see it happen is because guys like Ryan Howard aren't paid to drop a bunt against a crazy shift and make it runners at 1st and 2nd or whatever, they are paid to drop bombs! 3 run bombs are a big part of the game today and a big reason why certain guys like Howard, David Ortiz, and Adam Dunn don't change their approach.....an example of changing your approach and not getting anywhere is Chris Davis....he changed his approach of swinging for the fences with trying to swing for contact and putting the ball in play this year.....he was striking out less but the HR's and RBI's were nowhere to be found and his ass is back in Triple A again

Did anyone just see Howard wait on the pitch and roll a single right where the the shortstop should be to score a run?
