Why don't they play baseball in the rain?

Might be a stupid question, but I just want to know. Is it a pitching thing, where the batter cannot see the ball making it dangerous? I could see that.

When you have a guy that throws 95+mph..... and their hands get wet, they could do some serious damage.

Also has to do with the field. If there is standing water it could really screw the game up.

Well, you can play in the rain for awhile, the dirt becomes mudd, and puddles start to form. Like Ron said, you have pitchers throwing the ball 95 mph, the batters vision becomes a little impaired alongside everything else in the heavy rain. I don't think it has anything to do with the players being pussies, it would be the opposite of ice starting to melt during a hockey game, kind of hard to play the game.

I don't get the opposition to a retractable roof, it would only be closed if the weather was bad. You would really rather be outside under an umbrella getting poured on and staring at a tarp than watching a game played indoors?

I never understood why they dont play in the rain either. If they can play football in the rain, they sure should be able to play baseball. Part of the fun in watching is seeing the game being played in whatever the elements are presented.
