Yankees just hacked the Mariners

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Mariners have acquired Jesus Montero from the Yankees for right-hander Michael Pineda.

Greg Johns of MLB.com was told by a team source that the Mariners will acquire Montero and right-hander Hector Noesi from the Yankees for Pineda and prospect right-hander Jose Campos. It's a stunning deal in many respects, but the Mariners needed an impact bat in the worst way. It will be interesting to see whether he is used at designated hitter or whether the club tries to stick him behind the plate. Pineda turns 23 next week and posted a 3.74 ERA and 173/55 K/BB ratio over 171 innings as a rookie last season. While he'll likely miss Safeco Field, he should fit quite nicely behind C.C. Sabathia in the Yanks' rotation for the next few years. It will be interesting to see where the Bombers turn with their DH spot considering that Montero was projected to start the season there.

In other news .....

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees have signed Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year deal worth between $10-11 million, pending a physical.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the deal is worth $10 million. The 37-year-old Kuroda has very quietly posted a quality 3.45 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over four seasons stateside, averaging 6.7 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9. He'll join a rotation which is set to include some combination of CC Sabathia, Michael Pineda, Ivan Nova, Phil Hughes, A.J. Burnett and Freddy Garcia. The Yankees' rotation has improved immensely in the past hour.

Everyone saw how much a cost controlled ace like Latos cost and now Seattle does this.

Yankees just became the AL favorites IMO.

we way over-paid for Kuroda. he could be a nightmare in the AL.

like pineda, but again in that park could be rough on him. young pitchers can go either way in NY too.

jesus montero was a superstar ready to shine, HATE trading him.

not sure i overall like all of this,

I like the deal. Wish we could've kept Montero though and traded A-Rod instead

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

Trading for pitching is not a bad decision....

We have good catching in the minors we could afford to part with him

At first glance not sure this is such a great deal for the Yanks. Pineda has only had one good year and like someone said who knows what's gonna happen with him playing in the Yankee Stadium Bandbox and against much better hitters.

Must be tough to part with a guy like Montero. Guy looks like he's gonna be nasty.

You guys are crazy...Pineda has ACE written all over him and under control dirt cheap for 5 more years.

1 year deal for Kuroda is also great. He's one of the more underrated pitchers in the game.

When I found out they got Pineda for just Montero I was shocked. Pineda can pitch. Seattle retarded IMO.

I agree that Pineda is a good looking young SP (think he's like 21 or 22). But he's only pitched for basically one year and Safeco is a huge pitcher's park. Big difference between the offenses of the AL West and AL East.

Seattle has been drooling over Montero since 2010 and the Cliff Lee saga

Yanks have Pineda locked up until 2016 and have a formidable 1-2 punch now

Campos is the sleeper IMO he hits 97 on the gun and is only 19

Seattle got played IMO

3 years down the road Yanks rotation.....CC/Pineda/Nova/Betances/Banuelos with Gary Sanchez behind the dish
