Baylor fires strength coach after arrest on solicitation of prostitution charge

Late Monday night, new Baylor coach Matt Rhule fired his strength coach, who has arrested over the weekend on charges of soliciting a prostitute. The move comes less than a week after Baylor released evidence of alleged coverups and wrongdoing by Art Briles and his staff members.

Brandon Washington, first hired by Rhule as a strength and conditioning coach at Temple in 2016, had a short stint with the Bears that ended over the weekend after his arrest.

"When we arrived at Baylor, we made a commitment to character and integrity in our program," Rhule said in a school-released
statement. "Brandon's actions are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate conduct that is contradictory to these values."

According to the Waco Tribune, Washington was detained by McLennan County authorities shortly after midnight Saturday at a local hotel.

Washington was recently hired by the school for his position but by Monday evening any evidence of his employment had been scrubbed from the team's website.

Part of Rhule's charge as Baylor's first full-time head coach after the scandal is to change the culture -- it's one reason he received a seven-year deal.

Coordinated efforts to intervene in player discipline isn't tied to what staffers do with their free time, but the timing of this mistake by Washington results in terrible optics for Rhule. By taking swift action, the new boss has sent a no-tolerance message to the rest of the staff.

This strength coach was a coach he brought with him from Temple. He must have gotten away with it at Temple as I doubt this was his first time.
