Big East adds Navy
The Big East has announced that Navy will join the conference for football only, effective for the 2015 season. Navy's addition will give the Big East eleven football schools. Boise State and San Diego State are also joining as football only members. Central Florida, Houston and SMU are joining as full members. The Big East plans to add one more football school to reach twelve, creating two divisions to stage an annual conference championship game.
In 2015, the Big East football playing members will consist of Boise State, Central Florida, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, Louisville, Navy, Rutgers, San Diego State, South Florida and SMU. Why not add Army as the 12th school? One of my friends suggested Japan University since this conference covers the globe. I don't know, who would be a good fit for the final member in this screwed up conference?

Both the Army and the Air Force have turned down the Big East. It would make sense for the Big East to go after another team that actually plays on the East Coast. East Carolina would be a good choice. This way, you can have Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, SMU, Louisville, and Cincinnati as a Western Division, and UConn, UCF, USF, Navy, Rutgers, and say East Carolina as an Eastern Division. If the Big East opts for 8 conference games, that means only one trip to the East Coast or Florida for Boise State and San Diego State per season, and one trip, if that, for Eastern teams to the West Coast or Texas per season. That is doable.

You make a good point Junkdog but what concerns me about a conference like this is fan interest.
Look at the SEC...regional south. Look at the Big 10...regional midwest. Look at the Pac 12....regional west. This damn conference is all over the world. Hell, the Big East will cover as much ground as the NFL. Just silly in my opinion. |
