Coaching Salaries Exploding

College football coaches salaries are exploding, especially at schools with high level football programs. Schools and wealthy boosters want to win and win now regardless of the costs. Good example:

Clemson paid its entire football coaching staff $2.7 million this past season; next year, their two coordinators along will make a total of $2.1 million. The Tigers got 70 points hung on them in the bowl game and DC Kevin Steel was told to hit the road. New defensive coordinator Brent Venables (Oklahoma DC) will get a nice raise from his $500,000 salary with the Sooners to $800,000 with Clemson.

After only one year offensive coordinator Chad Morris was given a new 6 year package worth $1.3 per season making him the highest paid assistant in college football after Gus Malzahn left Auburn.

Consider Clemson's professors will get a 2% payraise this year after a four year freeze. One positive for Clemson is they have one of the best booster clubs in college football and raise a ton of money for the football program. Much of the coaching increases will surely come from these funds.

Are coaches worth this kind of money? I have an opinion but would like to hear yours first. Welcome your comments.................

Anyone know who are the highest paid head coaches for each conference? I believe Saban is in the SEC and Brown (Tx) in the Big 12. Not sure of the other conferences. I'm guessing Beamer (VT) is in the ACC but not sure.

Anyone know what Charlie Weis signed for?

UCLA gave Mora over 2 million a year, which is twice the amount that they were paying Neuheisel. Total stupidity.

Junk, who in the world is in charge at UCLA? I'm not a Mora fan at all....didn't see the connection of a school needing a total resurrection and this NFL failure.

I understand he came in and put his foot down with the players. Guess we will see but not a good hire in my opinion. He's going to recruit with that guy across town...I don't think so.
