Oregon QB going Pro

Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas has opted to forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. Thomas threw a school record 33 touchdown passes last season.

Not good news for the Ducks. Oregon will now enter the coming season with no experience at quarterback. A redshirt freshman and two true freshman will compete for the starting job.

The backup has some experience. He filled in for Thomas this season starting a couple games, and he did pretty good. No dropoff imo

I don't think he will be a great pro...

i think even he knew that bryan bennett was going to be the starter next year, whether he's there or not, that's why he went pro

Might be a tad of a stretch there 83 suggesting Thomas might be beaten out if he had stayed for his senior year.

Thomas passed for 2761 yards (62%) and 33 TD passes.
Bennett passed for 369 yards (54%) and 6 TD passes.

Marcus Mariota and Jake Rodrigues are the freshmen in the mix.

May have been a strech to say he would for sure have been beaten out, but there would have at least been a competition for the starting job, and an article I read suggested that Bennett was favored to win the starting job for next season

I appreciate your input 83.....that's what makes a good thread.

I'm not an expert on Oregon and maybe some of the Duck guys will chime in and enlighten us.

one of the talking heads on espn (mcshay i think) had mentioned something in a tweet that part of the reason may have been because there was going to be an open competition at qb this spring between him & bennett.

after reading that i did some article searching online and it seemed that many thought it would be bennett's job next year. articles were on oregon fan sites so may have just been sour grapes, but at the very least it doesnt sound like his job was secure for next season

Thanks 83...

I've got a couple of basketball games I'm trying to get through tonight in the positive. Got Christy Moore (Ordinary Man) blasting and just enjoying.

You're one of the guys (83) I need to remember. Good stuff my friend.

That is like saying that there will be an open competition at USC. I think the real reason why Thomas bailed out is because the Oregon offense gets hit very hard by graduation and defections, and no one is sure exactly what Chip Kelly will do in the future. Remember, Oregon lost to USC in Eugene. This year they play in Los Angeles. Still, it was a big mistake for Thomas to go Pro.
