SEC Recruitment Rankings

With signing day only a couple of weeks away, here's a look at how Rivals ranks SEC teams. Come signing day, this list will change some but its fun to look at now.

1. Alabama (two 5star DBs and one 5star RB add to solid group)
4. Florida (Muschamp needs a good class)
9. Texas A&M (competing in tough SEC West...better recruit)
12. South Carolina (ole ball coach putting together another good class)
13. LSU (lost some key recruits of late)
14. Tennessee (Dooley finally has some experience...this will help)
16. Auburn (Tigers will be a top 10 after signing day)
18. Georgia (two good RBs to challenge Crowell)
26. Vanderbilt (finally a coach who can recruit)
31. Arkansas (lot of holes to fill...disappointing at this time)
33. Miss State (Is luster wearing off of Dan Mullen)
42. Ole Miss (New coach, late start, inherits a mess)
43. Missouri (Improvement needed to compete in SEC)
Kentucky (Not in top-50...Joker is a joke and will be replaced after this season.

Welcome your comments.....................

I bet UGA, LSU, Aub, and Tn make it in the top 10.

S. Car and Tex A& AM will drop.

UAT will finish #1 overall

by the way this will be back to back poor classes in Arky.

Petrino is a great coach but something is not right with his classes.

I hate that Joker is not working out, as he seems like a good coach but when you become the vandy of the SEC you are in trouble

Cman, I think you are probably right about several schools moving up when the final rankings come out. Auburn could make a huge jump from what I'm hearing.

I'm really impressed with the Vanderbilt coach....the dude is a worker on the recruiting trail. (After the Ala/Vandy game, Bama's second team QB, a 5star out of Virginia walked across the field and hugged James Franklin (Vandy head coach). My worry is Phillip Sims won't sit for two more years behind AJ McCarron and transfer.)

Joker Phillips is a good coach and well liked by his players. He was not ready to be a head coach, especially at a basketball school like Kentucky. He'll be replaced after another disappointing season.

I agree Petrino needs to improve his recruiting. His biggest recruit this year was keeping his QB out of the NFL. The kid is the best quarterback in the SEC.

With that defense u barely need a QB. Now that you have Yeldon you have the next Richardson.

I dont get how a guy who has been coaching 20+ years like Joker is not ready to be a head coach. I think you would agree Terry Bowden could not be anything but a HC....not saying a great one but he could not do anything else....

The SEC rule of 25 only will hurt the numbers but will help the overall star ranking of the entire conference. This rule will eventually cost the SEC a National title.

Funny you mentioned Terry Bowden, a group of us were talking about him at breakfast. Bowden just finished three successful years at Division II North Alabama. He has just been hired at doormat Akron. If Bowden turns that program around, he will get another shot at a bigtime school.

A good assistant coach does not always translate into a good head coach....just like a great player doesn't necessarily translate into a good coach. Any successful head coach has to be a good organizer and manager....some assistants lack those skills in a way that equals success. Bama's Saban is not the best coach on the block, but he's second to none in organization and management.

My sister hates he is leaving UNA. (She was all Gulf South Conference as a cross country runner when they were apart of that conference 15 or so years ago). She loves the Lions.

Terry is a good coach he just got lazy at Auburn...

Wow he has gotten fat by the way

I was kinda hoping he would have went to UAB and coched.... He inherited a good program at UNA also though.... I dont predict he will do that well at his new school

Country, Bama needs to hang on to Phillip Sims. You can't blame a highly touted and heavily recruited QB wanting to play. Sims would be starting for alot of teams right now. If McCarron happened to get injured, Sims is about all we have backing him up. The other guys are not ready to play in the SEC.

Concerning Bowden and UAB....many folks thought it was a done deal. Bobby Bowden is from Birmingham and would love to get back to the area. I was told Bobby said he would even be a volunteer coach if Terry got the job. Don't have a clue why the offer never came.

Cman, the University of North Alabama has done well in football for years. They draw 10,000 plus fans a game. Pretty good for a Division II school. Bobby Wallace who won three national championships back in the 90's at UNA is the new coach.

Recruiting rankings mean absolutely nothing to me. 90% of them are incorrect to begin with. Most of these kids end up as busts. What is important tome is how the schools recruited to fill their needs. USC has by far, the best skill players in the nation. Their QB. RB's, and WR are easily the best that any team has. No other team can come close to matching them. What USC needs is offensive and defensive linemen. ARkansas needs WR's. 'Bama needs help at the LB position. LSU's offense is a disaster. Some teams, like Tennessee, simply need all the talent they can find. So I do not buy these recruiting rankings. Not for a minute. Let's see which kids even make it to the field of play, and then how they do once they make it there.

Well I understand that it is projection Junkyard....but I gurantee that the last 10 national champs have finished in the top 10 in recruiting almost every year.

So while some kids don't work out...the recruiting rankings are pretty predictive as to who will be in the hunt for the titles

Looking forward to seeing closer to a level playing field with the rest of college football. Of course, Georgia and Florida have been against oversigning for a long time now and stayed away from it even though they could.....good for them.

It really wont hurt the SEC. Teams "grayshirt" players basically opening up scholly's in early spring for players that leaves after the semester. This brings in 2-3 guys to play in the spring practices minimally. If they can play they earn their scholly, if they can't then that scholly opens the following season for a top recruit.
