Tennessee hires new Defensive Coordinator

Alabama's linebacker coach Sal Sunseri has been named the new defensive coordinator for the Vols. Sunseri is a gratuate of Pittsburgh (1982) and has a son who plays QB there. He also has a son who plays safety at Alabama. Sunseri has been replaced by Tennessee D-line coach Lance Thompson. This is Thompson's third stint under Saban. He spent two seasons at LSU (2002-03) before joining Saban at Alabama (2007-08). Thompson is known as one of the better recruiters in the SEC.

We Bama folks hate to lose Sunseri but you can't blame a coach for trying to improve himself. Should be a pretty good bump in pay.

So 'Bama and Tennessee are swapping assistant coaches? The only coaching change that will help Tennessee is if they get rid of their head coach, Derek Dooley. He is 11-14 in two years at Tennessee, and that includes wins over teams like Montana, Buffalo, Middle Tennessee State this past season, and Tennessee Martin, UAB, and Memphis last season. That is 6 home wins against teams that could not defeatg a decent Juco team. His Conference record is 4-12, with two wins coming against Vandy, another against Kentucky, and one against Mississippi, three of which were wins at home. He loses more players than he recruits. As long as he is at Tennessee, the Vols will be a 2nd rate team in the SEC.

Junk, you know how much I dislike Tennessee as a Bama fan but I have a different view on Dooley. When he came in, the Vols were a mess. He established order by running some players off and was stuck with a very, very young team....especially on the OL. I believe if the 'Powers' at UT will give the guy 5 years, he will have the program back on track.

UT has the facilities, stadium, and fan support to be good again...and in my opinion, Dooley will deliver if given time.

Rock, I agree with you that Tennessee is a top job in college football. I disagree with expectations of a coach who comes in with a bunch of outlaw players that he has to cull and start out with five freshman on the offensive line. God wouldn't win in the SEC with five freshman on the OL.

Dooley has some experience at key positions this season.....let's see how he does.

If he has another losing season....yes....he's in HOT WATER.

(Partner, I don't give a rats ass about the Vols....just trying to be fair to a coach)
