Is There Hope For a Playoff System?

There may be some legitimate reason for hope that some type of playoff system may be in place for the BCS soon. This article from CBSsports.com:

"NEW ORLEANS -- BCS officials are open to making big changes to college football's postseason format, including implementing a four-team playoff.

The commissioners from the 11 FBS conferences met Tuesday to exchange ideas about what the system for crowning a national champion will be starting in the 2014 season. BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock says 50 to 60 possibilities for various changes were presented.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott says ideas were not "ranked" or "eliminated."

Hancock says the process will be deliberate, and he expects it will take between five and seven meetings before July 4 to come to a decision.

A new BCS format must be in place before the fall when television negotiations with ESPN open."

That means that the 11 Conferences must take these ideas up with their respective Universities in a hurry. In NCAA terms, the 4th of July is like tomorrow.

There is some hope here guys. If not a 4 team playoff, at least a "Plus One". With the Championship game having the worst ratings ever, and the overall ratings for the BCS games down 10% from last year, and over 20% from 2009-10, the BCS needs all the help it can get, and they know it.

Top 8 teams

Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta hold quarterfinal games

Then 2 hold semi final games

And 1 hold National Championship game

Next year rotate and the one that sat out this year gets one of the semi finals next year.

In a 4 year time window each bowl will get 2 semi final matchups, one National Championship and 1 nothing after the quarter finals.

Now no true team with a legitimate shot at a National Championship can bitch because they will determine it on the field and not by computers, regular season still matters, the true bowl games still matter and finally a true champion is crowned.

Unfortunately they will not go for an 8 team playoff. Remember when the NCAA frist started their hoops playoff, there were only 8 teams allowed in the tourney. Today there are what, 66 teams? When dealing with the NCAA, you have to crawl before you walk. I think they will settle for a "Plus One". Anything has to be better than this year's BCS fiasco.

16 would be lame, college football isnt pro, all the regular season count and more

4 would be cool though

16 is impossible. Not with 12 regular season games. 8 is a stretch. 4 would be nice.

I'd like to see 8 teams. The 6 BCS Conference Champs, one Non-BCS, one at large.

This year it would of been:

LSU
West Virginia
Clemson
Wisconsin
Okie St
Oregon
Boise
Alabama

That would of been a hell of a tourney!

they use their lame ass excuse that they dont want the kids to miss that much school or some sh*t. im not sure about the rest of the nation but in texas high school football, playoffs are 5 weeks long as opposed to the one extra game that college plays. we are talking essentially a 15 or 16 week season for high school kids. they should have atleast an 8 team playoff. but hey if they do 4 teams atleast its a start.
