Cleveland State is a good team but too weak of a conference and non conference SOS
Wichita State & Missouri St could beat any number of tournament teams, I feel they got snubbed (should have gotten in the first four thing) Saint Mary's Colorado Alabama also could have gotten in over others all have cases |

Beat them in the regular season also. They also beat PSU whom finished 2nd in the Big Ten Tourney.
I think this is four years in a row they have been left out when being on the bubble.

Colorado has to be the biggest snub out of everyone. They beat Texas & Kansas St. 3 times for crying out loud.
Yet, Kansas St. gets in & Colorado doesn't? I think that is an injustice, and somehow Illinois gets in where personally I think they are a mediocre team at best.

Because really, there is no other reasonable explanation for UAB’s inclusion. There aren’t any unreasonable explanations, either, although Smith gave it a shot when he said: “Their road wins, who they beat, their RPI and a lot of different factors.”
Who they beat? OK, I give up. Who did they beat? Answer: UAB’s best win was over Virginia Commonwealth (RPI: 49), itself a bubble team that somehow squeezed into the field. Smith embarrassed himself with that answer. *** As written previously on the Hotline, I thought St. Mary’s deserved a bid due to its non-conference schedule, road/neutral wins and overall body of work. But at the same time, I can understand why the Gaels would get left out: Lose at San Diego and at home to Utah State, and you’re giving the committee reason to exclude you — always a risky proposition for the so-called mid-majors. What I cannot understand is why UAB warranted a bid and SMC did not. Smith talked about who UAB beat, but St. Mary’s best win (St. John’s) is better than UAB’s best win (VCU). Smith talked about UAB’s road wins, but St. Mary’s has more road/neutral court wins than UAB (10 to 9). UAB’s best road win was Arkansas: Not in the tournament. SMC’s best road win was Gonzaga: In the tournament. Conference affiliation? Not part of the evaluation process. Non-conference schedules? Nott comparable: SMC played five RPI top-30 teams; UAB played one. Again, you want to leave the Gaels out, fine. I disagree with it, but I can understand it. But to give UAB a bid and not SMC is ludicrous. |
