Question Billy Donovan - which is funnier

That St Johns actually offered him THREE Million dollars per year to coach there

OR

That he turned it down

Billy Donovan is so overrated as a coach it's not even funny. Good thing he didn't accept or he would have changed his mind.

well on top of that, he makes 3.5 million a year at florida - and this isnt 1985 so I dont think St Johns is a better program anymore ... and he turned down kentucky, why would he take st johns?

Good points, Is St Johns even on the map anymore?

How happy is the Orlando Magic that he changed his mind? Who knows where they'd be but Stan Van Gundy seems to have turned that franchise around. I get the feeling they would not be there if Donovan was the coach but all the Magic would have slick back hair

i dont even understand the offer. Youre supposed to significantly pay a coach more for a move like this...

yeah - well i guess it was just a rumor - now they are saying it wasn't st johns that made the offer, a St Johns booster offered him $3 million to come coach there, they said it was the owner of vitamin water

Before the back to back run, he put another team in the finals that lost to Michigan St. Three finals appearances at Florida is pretty impressive. How many other schools have done the same in the last 14 years? Not many, and I suspect nobody else did it at a "football" school.

I do find it refreshing that at least one coach in this world found success and decided to enjoy his success instead of pressuring himself with his next big challenge right away. he won 2 championships, why go elsewhere where you get no credit for those and instead are expected to create a champion every couple of years?

Florida does not have the same storied history as many other basketball programs have...i was going there when they finally made a final four and believe me, getting tickets to games then was as easy as walking up to the window the day of the games and getting courtside seats

You also have to look at the net amount he would earn, not just what's listed in the papers...In FL he makes ~$3.5m - Federal Tax (FL has no state tax on income) he clears ~ $2.1m. If he took the job at STJ, by the time you took out Fed. Tax, State tax, NYC tax, etc...he would only clear about $1.2m. Plus the cost of living difference between NYC and Gainsville. Not to mention, STJ blows!!!
