capperguy's Friday CBB POD

Hit my play yesterday on Rutgers FB, but don't feel confident enough to take Cincy tonight against WVU. The Bearcats have become a public team and the line has been adjusted accordingly. I am staying off that one. Also, I feel like Akron will surprise some folks tonight -- they aren't as bad as their record might indicate -- but I was hoping that line would be closer to a TD.

So ... time to turn my attention toward college hoops, and boy is there a game I like tonight. Kansas State (-21) over Loyola Chicago.

LC lost four of its top 5 scorers from last year while K-State brings tons of experience and athleticism to the table this year. The Wildcats are going to be a great team to bet on in the early going of this year, at least until they get noticed. This is a team that will fly under the radar in November and December, but believe me, you'll be hearing plenty about them by the time Big 12 play rolls around. K-State will finish in the top 3 in the league (behind Kansas and Texas), and are worthy of top 25 consideration already.

In previous seasons, the Wildcats struggled in the nonconference, but that was largely because they had so much unfamiliarity within the program. Bob Huggins came in for the 2006 season, and the Wildcats were forced to adjust to his style (they eventually did, going 10-6 in conference play). Then, Huggins bolted, and in came Frank Martin. Again, it was a slow process, even with stars like Michael Beasley and Bill Walker on board. The next year? Same thing -- how to play without your two studs?

But now, this team is ready to roll. All Big 12 guard Denis Clemente is fast and athletic. Jabob Pullen is the best guard you've never heard of. And they've got tons of athletic bigs that will prove to be too much for Loyola Chicago. I think K-State has the potential to win this one by 40, but will predict an easy 85-55 victory.

The POD is Kansas State.

Great win for K-State! I plan on tailing this team throughout much of the non-conference schedule, at least until Vegas catches up. This is a very good team that will be getting a lot of favorable spreads for us.

92-54 final.

I have another I like for college football tomorrow -- will probably only do one game, MAYBE two.
