Cuonzo Martin named coach at Tennessee

Congrats to Zo...As a Purdue alum and life long die hard Purdue fan I am one of Martin's biggest fans..Congrats to Counzo, a guy who has overcome a light in his life and one of the hardest workers in Purdue history...Tennessee fans should be very excited and watch out everyone else in the SEC

11-20 the year he took over, 24-12 and 25-9 the next two seasons.....it was in the MVC too where you don't exactly get the cream of the crop to recruit from. Solid coach with strong roots and networking system. Should be a great fit for the Vols.

Hopefully not....Calipari the biggest con in the NCAA. Can't wait for Cuonzo to take down Cal.

He was a good player and assistant at Purdue, and a good coach at Missouri State. He fits well at Tenn losing in the MVC tourny, and in the second round of the NIT!! I do not know if Vols fans should be that excited!!!

He obviously is riding on the great Indiana player turned coach, Steve Alford. He put Southwest Mizzou St on the map.

It's the NIT...who cares. It's like being in the JV tournament, nobody really "wants" to be there. It would be different if he had an undefeated team in those conferences then lost that early. Can't put much value into the tournament loss. They had just won their first conference title ever prior to the tourney, probably still had their heads in the clouds.

You are right no one cares about NIT in the big conferences, but teams from mid-major do!!
Well, I take it back with VCU and Butler in the final four!!

Really have to give Tennessee a lot of credit on this slam dunk hire with Cuonzo Martin. High character guy, unbelievable recruiter with roots in geographic regions that breed a considerable amount of talent out of high school, former NBA and professional basketball experience, and a cancer survivor. He will prosper at Tennessee and when all the Bruce Pearl non-sense get's pushed out of the way, there is no doubt in my mind that Tennessee will be the elite program out of the SEC under his watch. Cal and Billy D can't be happy about this, and same with Boilermaker fans if Painter takes a job elsewhere anytime soon as Cuonzo would have been their likely next choice.
