(4)Pittsburgh Panthers (21-2, 9-1 Big East) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (15-7, 6-4 Big East) The Pittsburgh Panthers face their most bitter rival in the Big East tonight when they tangle with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Tip-off from the WVA Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Pittsburgh comes into this game fresh off a 71-59 victory over Cincinnati as a nine-point home favorite. The win moved the Panthers to 21-2 straight-up (9-9 against the spread) on the year and kept them in first-place in the conference at 9-1 SU. The win over the Bearcats also proved to be costly as Ashton Gibbs, the Panthers leading scorer with an average of 16.3 points a game, sustained a knee injury that will sideline him for two weeks. Brad Wanamaker, who is the team’s second leading scorer with 12.3 points, and Gilbert Brown, who is averaging 11.5 points, will be counted on to step things up in Gibb’s absence. West Virginia is coming off a 66-50 loss to Villanova on Saturday as a 4 ½-point road underdog. The Mountaineers fell to 15-7 SU on the year and 9-10 against the spread. They are currently tied with Connecticut for seventh-place in the Big East at 6-4 SU. Casey Mitchell, the Mountaineers leading scorer with an average of 15.7 points a game, returned from a three-game team suspension against the Wildcats but proved to be ineffective. Look for Mitchell to get back in the groove with a much better effort against Pitt. Another player to watch is Kevin Jones, who is averaging 13.3 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds a game. West Virginia has a golden opportunity to take down Pitt with Gibbs out of the lineup. The Mountaineers have won two out of the last three meetings both SU and ATS and find a way to grab another win in tonight’s game. Team Trends: PITT are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 Mon. games. Under is 6-2 in PITT last 8 road games. Over is 7-3 in WVA last 10 home games. Play: West Virginia PK Last edited by FadeThePublic; 02-07-2011 at 04:25 PM. |

The road teams are 15-2 in the last 17 head to head meetings between Loyola Maryland and Siena, and with Siena overrated by the books this year, expect more of the same tonight. There is some Monday night MAAC action on the NCAA Basketball matchups this evening as the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds (11-11 overall, 7-5 conference) visit the Siena Saints (10-12 overall, 7-5 conference) at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY at 7:00 ET. The MAAC has been very partial to road teams in recent seasons and especially road favorites, and we look for that pattern to continue tonight with a Loyola Maryland cover vs. a Siena team that has tailed off drastically after winning some games in the NCAA Tournament in recent seasons. The NCAA Basketball latest line from Pinnacle Sports for this contest Loyola Maryland +4½ on the road, with the betting odds set at a -105. The Saints have been overrated by the sportsbooks for more of this season, and as a result, they have gone 8-11-1 against the spread overall and 1-6-1 ATS at home including an unfathomable 0-5-1 ATS in this home favorite rile! Then again, the Saints are not the only MAAC team that has struggled as a home favorite, although Siena has taken things to the extreme so far. In the last two full seasons plus this current one that only has about a month remaining, MAAC road underdogs have gone a wallet filling 156-123-1, 55.9 percent against the NCAA Basketball odds. The Greyhounds are 20-12, 62.5 percent in this role during this time, including covering as road dogs in their last contest Friday night at the Rider Broncs. Besides burning bettors’ money at home this year, Siena is also just 6-5 straight up here in Albany, further proof that it is not the same team that had NCAA success the last few seasons, as the Saints lost just one true home game in the last two years entering this season. Now Siena did manage to win at Loyola last month, but again, it is never a surprise when an outright underdog wins outright in this conference. The Pomeroy Ratings only confirm what most naked eyes have seen, that being that Siena is simply not very good this season. The Saints are ranked 180th overall by Pomeroy and they rank 245th out of 345 Division I teams in offensive efficiency with just 0.97 points per possession. The Saints are a poor shooting team this season, as they rank 312th in effective field goal percentage at 45.1 percent, 247th in three-point percentage and 307th in two-point percentage. As if that were not bad enough, Siena has not shot free throws well either at 66.7 percent, so it is really not surprising that they have failed miserable as favorites in NCAA Basketball betting regardless of the venue this year, going 0-8-1 ATS in the chalk role overall. Like a lot of MAAC teams, the Greyhounds have always done better against the spread on the road than at home since entering the conference, in fact going a scintillating 57-27-1 ATS in their last 85 road games! Also, as you might expect, the road teams are an unbelievable 15-2 ATS in the last 17 head-to-head meetings between these teams and the underdogs are 15-3 in the last 18 encounters. Now the Greyhounds are ranked just below Siena on the Pomeroy Ratings at 183rd, but they are ranked significantly higher in offensive efficiency at 164th. While that may not seem like much, consider that at 1.01 points per possession, Loyola at least is right at the national average, which is more than can be said about the Saints. Loyola has one more win than Siena, and the only discernable weakness for the Greyhounds look to be two-point shooting, where they rank just 266th in the land at 45.4 percent. They have made up for that though with loads of second-chance points, as they rank an excellent 52nd in the country in offensive rebounding percentage, grabbing their own misses shot 36.0 percent of the time. Loyola is also shooting an above average 34.5 percent from three-point land. Finally, although Loyola Maryland has covered the spread on the last five trips to Siena, the Saints have won the last seven consecutive head-to-head meetings straight up. That should serve as a nice motivating tool here as the Greyhounds seem some measure of revenge. Play: Loyola Maryland +4½
