BYU+1
Utah state has dominated the WAC over the past few seasons but will find themselves in an unfamiliar rebuilding mode. Utah State lost six seniors from last season's squad and returns just one starter and four letterman overall. The Aggies will have 10 new faces when they host BYU in this In state rivalry game.
One of the new players expected to be a major contributor for Utah State was Junior College All-American Antonio Bumpus. Yet Bumpus left the program Tuesday to deal with some health issues within his immediate family.
With so little depth and experience Utah State will likely struggle until they can get soem of the new players acclimated to playing at a high level.
While BYU loses star PG Jimmer Freddette to the NBA and guard Jackson Emery to Graduation there is still plenty of talent in Provo. PF Brandon Davies who was suspended last season for violation of the BYU honor code. is reinstated and looks to be primed for a big season. Davies averaged 11.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game prior to the suspension and was the Cougars best post scoring threat.
BYU has plenty of size and depth in the interior this season which will provide them matchup advantages in several games including this game tonight. Along with Davies the Cougars return 6-8 F Stephen Rodgers, 6-9 Forward Chris Collinsworth and 6-5 senior swingman Charles Abouo.
BYU will have revenge on their mind tonight after losing to Utah State last season. BYU will look to exploit their advantages in the paint and exploit the Aggie's lack of size and experience in that area.
