how much they have improved (or regressed) compared to pre-conference and end of season. Games in January-March hold more weight to me.

The number of playmakers on a team. Gotta have at least 3 to make a deep run.

How they finish games; Most tourney games are won in the 2nd half

Have similar road/home records. Winning on the road shows you can handle pressure, especially in close games.

A good number of blowout wins.

As far as stats I like: FG % defense, turnover differential, and of course rebounding.

In the early rounds its a guy who can do it himself, usually a guard. If guys like Dionte Christmas, Eric Maynor, etc get hot they can just propel a team. When you get down to the games where you know it will be close it's defense and guard play. Defense is hard to come by, even with the bigger named schools so it is important.

Coaching is obviously important also.

Projected NBA talent to me is the most important factor

guys with nba talent start trying during the tournament

just look at the lottery picks this year and look for upsets.

Marquette over #1 Kentucky comes to mind. I knew little about college ball but heard a bunch about this Wade kid and I was probably a kid at the time but Santa Clara and Steve Nash over Zona

even though I hate Blake Griffin, I just see him having a big tournament

although last year Beasley went out early, but he ran into Mayo a usc.

Turnovers, Rebounding, FREE THROW PERCENTAGE! Nothing worse than watching kids step to the line in a big game and going 2-7 in the last minute to blow it!

1) Defensive FG% (adjusted to strength of opponents)
2) Road record, quality road wins
3) Rebounding margin
4) Point Guard Assist Turnover ratio
5) NBA talent
6) Does main scoring and rebounding come from upperclassmen or lower.
7) Free throw %

Was analyzing the Midwest portion of the bracket tonight using these criteria. All 1,2,3 seeds win easy. Wake Forest could have a difficult matchup with Cleveland St. Teague doesn't take care of the ball well enough and the majority of their scoring comes form freshman and sophmores. I have them losing to Utah in the second round. Utah is my sleeper. They play defense, they rebound, free throws, and full of seniors. They will be a tough out. Siena/Ohio St is very difficult for me. Lean to Siena. Love USC to take care of Boston College. West Virginia might be in a battle but they should win in the end.
