Memphis Ncaa Violations

The University of Memphis is in the process of responding to an NCAA notice of allegations charging the men’s basketball program with major violations during the 2007-08 season under John Calipari.

The allegations include “knowing fraudulence or misconduct” on an SAT exam by a player on the 2007-08 team.

The wording of the report seems to indicate the player in question only competed during the 2007-08 season and specifically the 2008 NCAA tournament. The player’s name was redacted in the report, obtained by The Commercial Appeal through the Freedom of Information Act, due to privacy laws.

The player has subsequently denied the charge, according to university personnel.

The only player on the roster who competed only during that season was Derrick Rose, who subsequently was the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft last June.

If proven to be true, the Tigers could be forced to forfeit their NCAA-record 38 victories and Final Four appearance.

The report does not include allegations of lack of institutional control, meaning Memphis would likely avoid serious penalties that would have an impact on the program going forward. The report includes no allegations that would have occurred during the tenure of Josh Pastner, either as an assistant or head coach.

jeff robinson also played, so its not necessarily derek rose

could be sean taggert, he's a redshirt sophmore and was late enrollment his first year, prob because of his SAT score

So another big name coach changes schools, and the original school now comes under investigation. Haven't we seen and heard this song and dance before?

Not surprising....obviously Rose isn't the sharpest knife, the high school he went to in Chicago is the same education a 2nd grader gets in the suburbs.

obviously lots of inner-city kids are having grades and exam scores falsified more than just this incident. what I'm curious is what other dirt did Calipari do

defending rose?

lol -- all these guys cut corners, take money, cheat, lie, do whatever they want more or less

no need to defend anyone here, especially rose. he's one of many, many, many, many, many college athletes breaking some kind of NCAA rule, means nothing to him i'm sure nor to his future

should be some kind of penalty for hiring a coach that screws up and then leaves for another school

i would say only if the news broke THEN they hired him. i think calipari should be punished in a way to negatively affect kentucky basketball, but the school itself probably not

too bad that memphis is probably going to be the only one who gets any punishment
