It might be Northern State and an exhibition but.......
basketball is back at Mackey for 2012!
I'm hoping to see promising signs from a Purdue squad that has returning talent and a lot of unproven youth. Really looking forward to seeing our true freshman hit the court tonight. Tuesday night could mark the return of senior forward Robbie Hummel to the Purdue lineup, as well as the first game action for redshirt freshman Anthony Johnson and true freshmen Neal Beshears, Donnie Hale and Jacob Lawson. » Since the begining of the 2001-02 season, the Boilermakers are 15-0 in exhibition games against collegiate teams, posting a 21.5-point average margin of victory. » The Boilermakers have won 82 games over the last three seasons, the eighth-best win total in the nation and the second-most in the Big Ten. » Purdue is one of eight programs in the nation that has won at least 25 games in each of the last four seasons. » Purdue is one of three Big Ten programs that has won at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons (also Ohio State and Wisconsin), and its streak of five-straight 20-win seasons is the second-longest in school history. » The Boilers were 16-0 at Mackey Arena in 2010-11, making them one of only nine teams from the BCS conferences to finish the year unblemished at home. » Purdue's current 17-game home winning streak is the fourth-longest in the history of Mackey Arena. » Hummel was named Preseason All-Big Ten on Oct. 27 by a panel of league media, marking his third-career selection to the team and the fourth year in a row that Purdue has been represented on the squad. » Hummel has also been named to the preseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award for the fourth-consecutive season. » Tuesday night is also Costume Night at Mackey Arena, and fans in costume will receive a 20-percent discount on merchandise at Purdue Pride.

A team like that can gain local exposure for playing a Big Ten school. It's good experience for DII teams to see what the competition of DI is all about. Coaches can go out and recruit kids using their schedule as a boost. Regardless of the outcome, younger kids that might not have a DI future will see their school playing DI talent thus it could entice them to come to that school. I'm sure the school got paid a little but but it also gained exposure for playing a B10 school, which is what is important to them.

Men's Basketball Takes Exhibition Opener, 78-46
78-46....freshman looked good and Hummel didn't look too bad after two ACL tears. Believe it or not, I consider Purdue a sleeper this year to compete for the Big Ten title if they stay healthy.

Agree....they'll run into some roadblocks for sure but I like how they have a few easy preseason games mixed with some more interesting ones like Butler, Xavier, Miami, and an offensive minded Western Carolina. I'm trying to lock in tickets to a few games already since plenty of the John Purdue Club are furious with the new seating alignments. A lot of "high" rollers got booted from the lower level and are now in the upper arena. They made room for some big wigs that are donating more money. The problem is, you'll never see one of those big wigs wearing a Purdue jersey, tshirt, or have their face painted at the game. They'll be in suits.....
