Navy @ Texas - 26 (2)

I've been waiting on this line to come out as I wanted to jump on Texas asap. You talk about a disappointing season. This team started out on fire and expectations were very high. They finished with a very disappointing record of 24-10 and a first round loss to WF in the NCAA. I look for another fast start out the gate for Texas. Coach Barnes excepts the blame for last year's problems. This team is supposed to have leadership and chemistry. The losses of James (18 ppg, 10 rb, 30 min per game is huge). They lose a lot of muscle in Pittman (10 ppg, 6 rb, 19 min per game). Bradley who left for the NBA (11.6 ppg, 30 min per game,) will definitely be missed. Texas just reloads every year. They will be quick as Pittman actually slowed them down last year. Big things are expected out of F pg Cory Joseph. They say he is a big time scorer. He must be good if he beats out Sr. Dogus Balbay, truly a hustler if I ever saw one. I guess that's a good problem to have. Texas brings back enough experience to compete for a big 12 title. I just envision this team going up and down the court. Against a team like Navy, the athleticism will be no match. I see many to's leading to easy baskets. Texas is known for blowing out non-conf opponents at home. Last season for example: they won games by margins of 47, 32, 33, 33, 62, 32, and 37 at home, over Cal Irvine, West Carolina, Long Beach St, Texas st, Tex Pan, Gardner Webb, and Nebraska. They had severeal conf wins at home in DD's. Point is their tough at home and show no mercy. Other words, their subs would be starting on the non conf teams that they play.

Navy finished at 13-17 last year and lost in the first round of their conf tournament. They return 4 starters from that team but supposedly their bench is not very experienced. Navy schedule is about what you expect, they really don't play any top 25 teams. They only lost one game last year by more than 15 points. That was to Seton Hall by 40. I just think it's a tough spot to go play your opener. Texas has been waiting to get back out on the court ever since their season ending loss n the first round of the dance. Unfortunately, Navy will feel the brunt of that loss.

UC Irvine @ Illinois -22 (1)

You talk about an experienced team. Just look at this line up.

Probable Starters (averages listed are from 2009-10

Pos. No. Name Ht. Wt. Yr. PPG RPG APG Other
G 32 Demetri McCamey 6-3 200 Sr. 15.1 3.6 7.1 1.5 spg
G 1 D.J. Richardson 6-3 195 So. 10.5 2.7 2.1 .390 3-FG%
F 30 Bill Cole 6-9 215 Sr. 4.4 3.2 1.0 .460 FG%
F 24 Mike Davis 6-9 225 Sr. 10.7 9.2 0.9 81 off reb
C 54 Mike Tisdale 7-1 250 Sr. 11.9 6.0 0.8 1.6 bpg

I would think that all 16,000 fans will give this team the extra motivation in this home opener to cruise to a big victory. The Illini have already set high goals of getting to the elite 8. If that's the case then they will start fast in this one.

UCI finished at 14-18 last year and 6-10 in conf. Not good enough to keep the HC as he was canned. New coach Turner has a lot of experience in the NBA. That should help in the recruiting matters for the future. But this
is now and he's got to play the hand he has been dealt with. He has a good one in 250 pound Eric Wise who led them in scoring at 16 points per game. Last year when UCI opened up at Texas they got beat 89-42. They probably won't loose by that much at Illiois, but I don't think they can cover the 22.

Seattle @ Maryland -21 (1)

Gary Williams teams only play one way, that's all out. His teams take on his own characteristics. If they can crunch you, they will go for it. They lost a good on in Vasques, but have 3 veteran seniors returning who have 47 starts between them. Junior Sean Mosely returns and averaged 10.1 ppg last year. Sophmore Jordan Williams the leading rebounder (8.6 per game) returns to form a team that should out rebound most of their opponents this season. Maryland can put the points on the board. In their last exhibition game they put up 113 points. I know it was only a practice game, but they just dominated the boards and got out and ran the court. When you have wings that can fill the lanes and beat you down to the other end your going to score a lot of easy transition baskets. Maryland is also deep. So when they go to the bench there is not a lot fo drop off.

I don't know a lot about Seattle, until I read some about them on their athletic web page.

Seattle finished 17-14 last year. They won 5 games by 5 points or less. They return 3 starters. On their website it tells about their 121-91 exhibition win over Pacific Lutheran. They will run and gun this year as they have speed and shooters. They are not eligible for the NCAA tournament until 2014.

If they put out a total on this game and it's below 150, I'm probably going to bet the total.

Rhode Island @ Pitt -11 (1)

This is a tough opener for both teams as I expect Rhode Island to have another 20 win season. They won 3 NIT games before losing to NC by only 2 points.
Rhode Island returns three starters and nine letterwinners from a 2009-10 squad
that finished 26-10 overall and 9-7 in the Atlantic 10 Conference last year.
The Rams won three consecutive games to advance to the NIT Final Four before falling to North Carolina, 68-67, in overtime.

Of course big things are expected out of this Pitt team. Pitt returns four starters and seven of its top eight scorers from a 2009-10 team that finished 25-9 overall, ranked second in the Big East regular season with a 13-5 record, advanced to its ninth straight NCAA Tournament and earned a No. 3 seed upon entering the tourney.

Pitt will get at it on the defensive end. That is where they have the big edge in this matchup. (of course being home is a big + also) Rhode Island likes to play on the offensive end, but i can't see them defending Pitt in the paint.
Pitt is riding a 47-game home win streak against non-conference opponents. That doesn't bold well for Rhode Island.

NAME POS HT WT CL PPG RPG CAREER/2010-11 NOTES
52 Gary McGhee C 6-11 250 SR 6.9 6.8 •Started all 34 games in 2009-10
42 Talib Zanna F 6-9 225 FR* -- -- •Earned medical redshirt for 2009-10
5 Gilbert Brown F 6-6 215 SR* 10.7 3.2 •Averaged 15.5 ppg in Pitt’s 2 NCAA GP
22 Brad Wanamaker G 6-4 210 SR 12.3 5.7 •Six double-doubles in 2009-10
12 Ashton Gibbs G 6-2 190 JR 15.7 2.8 •Preseason All-Big East First Team pick

Now that's an experienced team that I'm gping bet on in the opener.

In my opinion, Illionis will score DD over the century mark, easliy. UC I is not A good basketball team, last friday UCI lost to Division 2 foe Concordia 86-76.

The only minus with this game is that there's NO TV coverage.
Good luck buddy.

WCI, let's have good season my friend

I'm a Winner, I hope your right. The Illini struggled in one of their x games. I think they were down at halftime in one of them. This is the real thing now so hoping for a big win. Line has dropped down to -21.

2 unit: 1-0 +2.00

The Illini up 42-18 at the half. I'm thinking Cal Irivne must be terrible.
That's what I get for thinking as they win the second half 47-37.
Tell me how you score 18 in one half and then 47?
Fricking Illini had to of quit playing D.

I love this game and the action. Get ready for a long season of ups and downs.
