Apparently Smith had a chartered jet set to go to Charlotttesville so it was close, but flight was cancelled

Just to clarify, I used to work in the Sports Department of a local TV station here in Minneapolis. One of my good friends still works there and does alot of TV and radio work with Tubby

He told me also besides many local stories here that the story is true, so curious who your source are that it's not

The story about the chartered jet is ABSOLUTELY true. That's not even in dispute so if you have some other info, very prepared to hear it

Uncle is a booster for athletic program, and Greg Roberts local sports guy here, they said Bennett was first choice, and Littlepage never offered/contacted Tubby Smith for the job, it was all sportswriter/mesage board hype and speculation

There were rumors here too about the Tubby Smith "airplane watch," never escalated beyond rumor status

A well-known professional sports executive who lives in the same block with a big University of Virginia booster phoned Sunday with the news that wealthy supporters of Virginia basketball still have hopes of luring Tubby Smith from Minnesota. My source said he talked to this rabid Virginia supporter on Saturday. However, in a long conversation early last week, the Gophers basketball coach insisted he has no interest in leaving Minnesota, and Tubby is a man you can believe.


So again I guess who it's you believe. Not saying what you heard isn't right, but I have heard the exact opposite here.
