Thumbs down Was that the worst coaching performance in a finals?

John Calipari has done some great things but this guy made crucial mistakes in the last few minutes. Obviously you can't blame him for everything and if guys made free throws it would not have mattered - but wow I thought he was better than that.

What do you think?

How do you lose that game? It almost seemed an impossibility.

The inbounds pass thrown in their own zone was the biggest mistake in that game. Call the TO don't just throw it in to anyone.

It seems John could have coached it better down the stretch. You have to give them credit cause they got the guys they wanted shooting FT's down the stretch, they just didn't make em.

John did put it all on his shoulders after the game and did not allow the players to take the heat. I thought he at showed a lot of class after losing the game that way.

I did not see this press conference so glad to hear it. I did not have anything on the game either way but I felt bad for Derrick Rose (hopefully a Miami Heat lifer)

I think another crucial mistake that they made(one of the many in the last two minutes) is that when they got the steal with about 20 seconds left, threw it down court, WHY TAKE IT TOO THE HOLE? You had a 3 on 1, dish it for an easy dunk or pull it out and take more time off the clock. I think that and that terrible inbounds pass and then not fouling at the end of the game all contributed to that loss. Even after all of their free throw woes they still had a 3 point lead with 10 seconds to go.

I am still bitter this morning. But still a great game.

Harry: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

Lloyd: I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of shit, man.

Memphis was notorious for being a bad free throw shooting team. The UCLA game was an anomoly. It finally caught up to them. They had the game won, but could not take care of business. The worst 2 minutes of coaching and playing that I have seen in a long time.

Good point they may have been fouled and missed em, but it would have given kansas less time to set up for that 3 ptr.

It was almost uncomfortable to watch. I really felt bad for them to come that close and not finish it off.

Was awful

You have to call a TO after the last made FT and tell the players they have to foul after they hit half court

I don't know if Calipari got caught up in the moment or not, but that was pretty bad

And as predicted months ago by me, FT shooting was the final downfall of Memphis, farther than I thought they'd get, but it eventually was their end

Bobby Knight was ready to strangle Digger Phelps when Phelps said the players should have known to foul without the coach taking a time out. Oh, sure they should have. Kids, playing the biggest game of their lives before 45,000 people , no big deal there. Calipari blew it, plain and simple. Greek is right...the two best coaches in the Final Four watched the game instead of playing in it.

Calipari:

- Didnt call a time out or tell his kids to foul

- didnt protect Dorsey with 3-4 fouls in the 2nd half when they had the lead

- Has CRD take all the shots late in the 2nd half AND in OT when Rose was on fire

Self -

- no timeouts whem memphis when on the big run -- waited for it to become a 9 point lead b4 he called a timeout

- getting away from the man - to man defense which had shut memphis down in the first 30 minutes and going to the box and 1 for no apperent reason which freed Rose to go off

- Not putting Rush on Rose until it was almost too late

- not telling his team to get the ball inside as they clearly had a HUGE edge in the paint

- have two of the big guys on the floor at the same time - any combo of Khan , Arthur , Aldrich, Jackson - to donimate the paint and free up the outside shooters
