A "better" handicapping tool?
alright first post here so here goes nothing. I just started betting pretty hard this year, because I can see the potential to make money. Anyways I was reading up on the yppt, and I liked what I saw, but not totally happy. I came up with a little system myself.
First for defense I looked at the yd/pt^2. why? because I saw Baltimore was near the bottom of the list, and they clearly don't belong there. Squaring the points put a little more emphasis on the points against, because in the end this is what really counts. The bigger the number the better For offense I did the same thing yd/pt ^2 for the same reason, and the smaller the number the better in this case. Lastly I took the ratio of these 2 numbers (def/off). since the bigger the defense, and small the offense, the bigger this ratio the better. It yielded quite interesting results: -----------------------------------ATS SU TENNESSEE 4.231521739 (4-0) (4-0) BUFFALO 2.635745005 (3-1) (4-0) NY GIANTS 2.351193634 (2-1) (3-0) PITTSBURGH 1.660265252 (1-4) (3-1) SAN DIEGO 1.602981969 (3-1) (2-2) PHILADELPHIA 1.486486486 BALTIMORE 1.472184532 TAMPA BAY 1.454975793 CHICAGO 1.453053435 DALLAS 1.370795256 GREEN BAY 1.319223986 CAROLINA 1.241248817 DENVER 1.223779149 ATLANTA 1.152173913 NEW ORLEANS 1.108 NY JETS 1.08214631 WASHINGTON 1.044274239 SAN FRANCISC 0.943720172 JACKSONVILLE 0.935318782 MIAMI 0.922310936 NEW ENGLAND 0.880173544 SEATTLE 0.867026903 ARIZONA 0.858071889 INDIANAPOLIS 0.658766941 MINNESOTA 0.645188957 OAKLAND 0.627807727 KANSAS CITY 0.593350864 CLEVELAND 0.518845453 (2-2) (1-3) CINCINNATI 0.511572516 (1-3) (0-4) DETROIT 0.408015697 (0-3) (0-3) HOUSTON 0.349500998 (1-3) (0-3) ST LOUIS 0.141973700 (0-4) (0-4) This seems like a damn good betting tool to me, any comments would be great. Also since I'm new at this betting thing, some picks would be great too! Last edited by kurugby; 10-02-2008 at 08:15 AM. |

Good work. Anything that helps can't be a bad thing. Hope to see you post regularly with the results to see this fares.

Question. Why do you need to square both offense and defense? If you don't square them, the ratios would be the same, NO?

i just squared the pt for, and the pts against, not the whole term. I said I did this because Squaring the points put a little more emphasis on the points, because in the end this is what really counts.

thai:
I'm only betting on 4 games this week because of money. With my system im going. chargers -6.5 vs dolphins bears -3.5 vs lions giants -7 vs seahawks -might buy .5 points just to save my ass bills pk vs cardinals Houston +3 vs colts might be a good pick, but being at the bottom of my stat list its too risky. Also Bengals +17 vs Cowboys. Bengals are at the bottom of my stat list as well, but 17 points is insane. |
