Newton started and played the entire first half of last Friday night’s 20-10 loss to Miami, completing 7 of 14 passes for 66 yards. It will help a passing attack that averaged just 4.7 yards per passing play against Miami.

The Panthers running game will likely be more in focus this week after finishing with 68 yards on 18 carries a week ago. Carolina ranked 13th in the league a year ago by averaging 115.4 yards per game on the ground. Thursday’s game will mark the first preseason meeting between the Panthers and Bengals. In the regular season, the two teams have met four times and the series is tied at two wins apiece.
