Betting info: Carolina Panthers v. Cincinnati Bengals
At the time of this writing, the following Match Odds/Moneyline were available: Carolina Panthers (2.12, +112) and Cincinnati Bengals (1.68, -147)
Carolina has split a pair of 20-10 games in the first two weeks of the NFL preseason and now will possibly begin life with rookie quarterback Cam Newton under center as the starter. “It will give us an opportunity to see how he’ll handle the whole game experience and go from there,” said Panthers first-year head coach Ron Rivera. Newton started and played the entire first half of last Friday night’s 20-10 loss to Miami, completing 7 of 14 passes for 66 yards. Carolina will welcome back star wide receiver Steve Smith to the huddle, as he’s missed the opening two weeks with a hand injury. It will help a passing attack that averaged just 4.7 yards per passing play against Miami.
The Panthers running game will likely be more in focus this week after finishing with 68 yards on 18 carries a week ago. Carolina ranked 13th in the league a year ago by averaging 115.4 yards per game on the ground. Thursday’s game will mark the first preseason meeting between the Panthers and Bengals. In the regular season, the two teams have met four times and the series is tied at two wins apiece.
