Betting Question
You guys must have the answer to this as it has confused me for a long time. It is my understanding that the point spread of the game is the handicapping of two teams to determine the mathematical scoring differential between the two teams and to arrive at a number that levels the playing field as much as possible in order to create equalized betting opportunities, what I cant figure out is why there are spreads that have unequal payouts before the first bet has been made, you see spreads that pay 1.86 for -3 then 2.00 on the +3 if that is the case why not up the line to 3.5 and have 1.9 on both sides of the spread
anyone know why this happens? I do understand that if one side gets more action that what a book is comfortable with they will make the other side more attractive but that doesnt account for opening a line with an uneven payout
