BFD Mock 4.0
Well it seems as draft nears a deal for stafford with the lions is all but in place. Unless there is some serious baiting attempts going on stafford will be dumb not to take a deal.
Remember i dont predict trades in these mocks but i think there will be a lot of movement in round 1. I am not sold that Seattle is looking at Sanchez at all. The only team in the top 10 i could see are Clev and SF. I think mostly teams will be trading to the 8 or 9 spot to grab Sanchez and the likely suitors are Den or Wash. I dont have Freeman in my first round, but i think he will be taken in the lat 20's when someone moves up wiht an early 2nd round pick (like Rams, Seahawks, Jags, 49ers) to grab a QB of the future to mold. I expect at least 1 Browns QB to be dealt on draft day.. I also expect at least Edwrds or Boldin to be traded for a late 1st rounder, whether its ravens giants or titans. I also wouldnt be shocked to see Moreno go higher than i have him. The guy is too talented to fall in the Eagles lap at 21. If for some reason the #1 pick is changed before draft day I'll try to change another mock, otherwise here it is.... 1. Detroit Lions- Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia: Well I guess its inevitable that this was going to happen. It seems the Lions are set on Stafford and I think it’s a huge mistake. They have better options to solve the QB position that don’t require so much risk. I personally think Stafford is going to struggle, especially with this franchise. However, there is no doubt he is a great prospect that needs a couple of years of development to ensure success. 2. St Louis Rams- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor: I still think they Rams have the easiest pick in the top 10. In my mind they have to be set to take the best OT available. They cut Orlando Pace, their cornersotne LT, and missed out on Jake Long last year. I still think Crabtree or Curry would be better selections for them, but something is telling me they are set on OT. So they get Jason Smith here and are happy not to have the risk involved with a OT with past knee problems in Monroe. 3. Kansas City Chiefs- Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: I’ve thought about this pick a lot and more things make sense for the Chiefs to take a top LT or Crabtree. I eliminated Curry mainly because the Chiefs have acquired Zach Thomas and Mike Vrabel in the offseason for ILB. Something there isn’t pointing to them looking at Curry, especially when they have invested picks in Hali and D. Johnson at OLB. This is also why I don’t see them taking Orakpo who is a hybrid type in a 3-4 not a 5 technique. Pioli watched Brady to Moss and Hayley knows the impact of an awesome Fitzgerald type of WR. If they have Crabtree and Bowe this would be a wah wuh wee wah offense. I think im the only one in the country though that sees this as the right pick, so this could be bad news for me. 4. Seattle Seahawks- Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest: They trade Julian Peterson to Detroit in the offseason and with a prospect with solid ratings across the board in Curry they should use this pick on him. They really could use an OT here because their offense has not been the same by any means since the departure of Steve Hutchinson to Minnesota (see Shaun Alexander). I think if they see Monroe of Smith slip they could go that direction. 5. Cleveland Browns- Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas: I’ll leave Orakpo right here because I think Mangini likes these hybrids in his defense. He took Vernon Gholston last year for it based off potential, and Orakpo has potential but is also extremely proven. This pick makes a lot of sense for Cleveland, but really nothing they’ve done in the offseason has. If Crabtree falls here they could select him because I think Braylon Edwards is gone very soon and Stallworth too, in jail. But reports are they think hes a prima donna, they are crazy!! 6. Cincinnati Bengals- Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia- They need serious help at OT and DE. I think they could be deciding between Tyson Jackson and Monroe at this spot based on needs. Monroe should be able to step in day 1 and help protect Carson Palmer and open up holes for Cedric Benson. If they can get their offense going again and Chad Ocho Cinco the ball, they could be a surprise team this year in their division. 7. Oakland Raiders- Andre Smith, OT, Alabama- They need to use this pick to address OT or WR help for JaMarcus Russell. If Crabtree were to fall here they should take him, otherwise they should nab one for the top four OT prospects in the draft. I know it will be hard for them to pass on such athletes like Maclin and DHB, but those guys are worthless if Russell is on his back all season. Protect your QB! 8. Jacksonville Jaguars- BJ Raji, DT, Boston College- In all likelihood teams are coming here to get Sanchez. I cant see Jacksonville being in this spot and selecting a pick here. If they do they will gladly take the top flight DT in this draft to help an aging Henderson and with the departure of Stroud. Once again, expect Washington or Denver jockeying for position for Sanchez. 9. Green Bay Packers- Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU- The Packers have more pressing needs in their front 3 in their 3-4 defense. I’ve had this guy all over the place in the first round but I think Tyson Jackson is the top DE in a 3-4 scheme in this draft. If Raji were to fall to them I think they would select him, but in this situation with the remaining players on the board, Tyson Jackson is their best fit. 10. San Francisco 49ers- Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi- They need an electrifying playmaker at WR but more importantly they need help on the offensive line. They could take a player like Maclin, but they could get lucky have Percy Harvin slip to them in round 2 due to his failed drug test. They also should take a serious look at Sanchez too. 11. Buffalo Bills- Brian Cushing, OLB, USC: I think the Bills need to take a defensive player right here and I think their LB group needs an upgrade. Cushing is definitely a great selection for them to take at that position. They need DE help too but I think Cushing is a better pick up than Everette Brown would be and Maybin is a better fit in a 3-4. 12. Denver Broncos- Mark Sanchez, QB, USC: I think a lot more GM’s and coaches are more comfortable with taking Sanchez over Stafford. Sure Stafford has the higher physical upside, but Sanchez is rated as a better decision maker. The Broncos and McDaniels definitely need to find a replacement for Cutler to keep the fans happy. Sanchez exceeds his value here by leaps and bounds. I doubt he slips here though… 13. Washington Redskins- Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee: First of all I think the Redskins will be making a serious attempt at getting Stafford or Sanchez. In the case that they don’t they should look for a DE. Ayers is considered a riser and a player that many teams are high on. He would be a good fit for the Redskins. 14. New Orleans Saints- Clay Matthews, OLB, USC: I think a lot of people are pointing to RB or CB with this pick, but I believe the Saints are somewhat satisfied at those positions to pass on taking either here. They need some help at the OLB position though and Matthews could be there from day 1. 15. Houston Texans- Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: Well I finally decided not to put Moreno here and im not happy about it. But looking at a secondary that could use help at CB or S a player who could play either has to be the pick. The Texans will have to add that compliment to Slaton in round 2, 16. San Diego Chargers- Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC: With Merriman coming off knee injuries and Maualuga being an upgrade over Cooper, I think this should be the pick for the Chargers. If Merriman is healthy it could be one of the sickest LB groups the league has seen in a while. 17. New York Jets- Jeremy Maclin, WR, Mizzou: If they have their choice between Maclin and Freeman, I think they could select Maclin. He is a huge playmaker and whereas Freeman is very hot and cold. Maclin will make an instant impact for a team that needs one offensively. 18. Denver Broncos- Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State: Talk about hitting the jackpot if Maybin slips here. Maybin is a player who could definitely enter the top 10 if teams felt the need to grab that hybrid prospect. He had a good pro day which help quiet concerns about the fact he didn’t start until almost mid season last year. No matter who they take, the Broncos need to address defense with this pick if they take Sanchez at 12. 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Everette Brown, DE, Florida State: The Bucs need some help across from Gaines Adams, and a speedy edge rusher like Brown could be a great fit. He is probably comparable to a poor mans DeMarcus Ware, some one who can also play OLB, but hey I’d wouldn’t mind being a poor mans Bill Gates. Tampa Bay honestly has so many routes and holes to fill, they will likely take the best available prospect who fits their needs, in this case is Brown. 20. Detroit Lions- Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State: This is the first mock where he cracks the first round and for good reason. With the Lions now selecting Stafford, they should look to add a weapon for the offense in both passing and blocking. I was on the fence right here between him and Peria, but I think there will be better quality at their 2nd round pick in DT v TE. 21. Philadelphia Eagles- Knowshon Moreno, RB. Georgia: Right here I know my mock draft has to be wrong. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go as high as #5 to Cleveland. This guy is a game breaker and I’d be pissed if the Cowboys had to face him for years to come. The Eagles might even think about trading up if they feel necessary, because there are no guarantees this guy slips, some one sooner might just pull the trigger on this talented back and they should, I just cant identify the team (possibly NO, Hou, SD, NYJ) 22. Minnesota Vikings- Eben Britton, OT, Minnesota: The Vikings are in a spot to trade down for a lot of teams with different needs , especially ones wanting Freeman. They could use an upgrade at RT and Eben would definitely be a blocker that could help in the passing game. If one of the USC LB’s is here I would expect them to be taken by Minnesota. They might even reach for Laurinitus. I think a player like Harvin could be a good fit for the type of WR threat they need, but I’ve heard the Vikings arent interested in him. 23. New England Patriots- Connor Barwin, DE, Cincinnati: Barwin is your typical DE/OLB 3-4 system hybrid. He has a lot of athleticism and the only knock on him really is he started his career as a TE. With New England though that could be a plus, Mike Vrabel 2.0. 24. Atlanta Falcons- Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi: The Falcons have a huge need at nose tackle and are more than pleased to see him drop here. In addition to signing Gonzalez, the falcons make another big move to adding strength to their team. 25. Miami Dolphins- Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois: The Dolphins need help in the secondary at both CB and S. Davis has a lot of value and upside here and is in the right organization to keep him on track. 26. Baltimore Ravens- Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland: I think they’ll be very happy to find that #1 weapon for Flacco sitting right here in the draft. Although they could use some DB or LB help I think they’ll take that a WR like DHb is worth choosing. Some major slippage for him in my mocks mostly because he comes with a lot of question marks and the lack of success of the flat out burners in drafts past. 27. Indianapolis Colts- Evander Hood, DT, Mizzou: Have had him here for awhile for obvious reasons. The Colts need help at the position and Hood has been great all year. His strong performances at the Sneior Bowl and combine should help solidify him in this spot. Whatever the Colts do im sure it will be the right pick. 28. Buffalo Bills- Larry English, DE, Northern Illinois: The Bills add a great pass rusher here in English, something they definitely need. They could look to replace Peters here, but I think they can get value in round 2 and trade up for Beatty or Loadholt if they feel they need to in round 2. 29. New York Giants- Sean Smtih, CB, Utah: The Giants could use some secondary help. Smith will likely play Safety and the Giants defiantly have need for him there. I doubt they draft a WR here since they’ve taken a plethora in the past drafts. 30. Tennessee Titans- : Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina: Nicks drops a little bit, but by no fault of his own. Tennessee needs a #1 mold WR and fast. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the mix for Edwards or Boldin. 31. Arizona Cardinals- Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State: They need a combo at RB to go with Hightower. The Edge is done in Arizona. Wells is a good selection here on both need and value. 32. Pittsburgh Steelers- Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers: Hines Ward is 33 and on his way out. This is a luxury pick here, where they get the big physical WR to go with Holmes. They took Limas Sweed last year but I don’t see him being their #1 guy. Britt is a luxury pick that seals their WR group for the next 8 years.
