Bob Sanders out 4-6 weeks

Per ESPN.

High ankle sprain. Things getting worse for Indy.

Indianapolis Colts all-pro safety Bob Sanders could miss up to six weeks due to a right ankle injury.

Team president Bill Polian said during a taping of his weekly television show on Tuesday that the reigning NFL defensive player of the year figures to be out at least a month after being hurt in the second half of Sunday's 18-15 win in Minnesota.

"He'll be back, that's for sure,'' Polian said. "At this point we're not sure of the severity, but I would say four-to-six [weeks] is probably the reasonable assumption.''

Polian also said Sanders, 27, may undergo arthroscopic "cleanup" surgery on one of his knees while recovering from the ankle injury.

The hard-hitting Sanders, whose run-stopping abilities helped the Colts finish last season with the NFL's third-ranked defence, is the latest Indianapolis player to go down with an injury.

Pro Bowl centre Jeff Saturday hasn't been in a game since hurting a knee ligament Aug. 24, while starting left guard Ryan Lilja remains out after undergoing off-season knee surgery. Mike Pollak, a second-round draft choice expected to start at right guard, has been out since Aug. 24 with his own knee injury. And left tackle Tony Ugoh left Sunday's game with a groin injury.

Tight end Dallas Clark (knee) also missed the Minnesota game.

Seems like this guy misses a handful of games every year and the Colts D really struggles with the run game. Maurice Drew might have a big game.
