ESPN.com news services
Doctors are aggressively fighting an infection in Tom Brady's surgically repaired left knee. Brady recently acknowledged on his Web site that doctors went in "to clean and to test the wound" on Oct. 15 because of the infection. The New England Patriots quarterback has had two more similar procedures since then. The story was first reported by the Boston Herald and confirmed by ESPN's Wendi Nix. The Patriots, as an organization, are upset with the situation because they were clear that they wanted Brady's surgery done under the direction of doctors of their choosing in Boston, sources told ESPN. Instead, Brady opted to have the surgery in California by a doctor his family preferred, and now there are major problems. Brady was supposed to be back in New England by now, but a timeline for his return remains unclear. According to the Herald, Brady is on a six-week course of intravenously administered antibiotics, and is still having follow-up exams at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, where the surgery took place. If the infection is not brought under control, the patellar tendon graft used to replace Brady's anterior cruciate ligament could become compromised, according to the Herald's report. If that happens, he will have to undergo another surgery on the ACL. That would reset the clock on his rehabilitation. |

All I know is getting surgery is getting to be a bigger and bigger risk with these infections that are harder and harder to deal with.
Scary Stuff. |

I respect Tom Brady and it would be a shame. He is one of the best ever and I hope he is okay and would be able to play again.

I really hope he comes back. Would be a shame to end a hall of fame career in its prime. He'd probably lose a ton of sleep knowing his last game ever (not including the 1st quarter of the Chiefs game) was one of the biggest upsets ever in the Super Bowl.

I envy how minor his knee injury and complications are. He could be worse off. It's all relative.

He should of went to the doctor that the Pats wanted to send him to. You gota figure they are paying him millions to be there QB, so they wanna protect there investment. So they only would of sent him to the best.
He still could of recovered in LA and just took flights out of LA to bosten for doctor visits. Bad choice on Bradys part.

there are no "Minor" surgeries... I don't care who the doctor is, there is always risk of infection...
