Post Broncos Without Top Receiver Against Patriots: Injury Update

The Broncos face a huge test on the road against the New England Patriots. There is no doubt that quarterback Tim Tebow knows how to work magic.

However, he will have one less target to find when the team faces the Patriots. Wide receiver Eric Decker is expected to miss the game, leaving Denver severely light at the wide receiver position. That could come into play in the game against the Patriots.

Decker was the leading receiver for Denver in all major categories. He had 44 receptions, 612 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns during the 2011 season. While those aren't numbers that blow you away, they were good enough to lead the team. Denver does not lean heavily on the pass, especially with Tim Tebow at quarterback.

But losing Decker makes the passing game even less of a threat. Against the Steelers, Denver only had two other wide receivers make catches. Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas made receptions at the position. The Broncos also have Matt Willis. Beyond that, they will lean on the tight ends and running backs to make catches. That could be trouble against New England.

The best way to attack the Patriots is through the air. New England had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL in 2011. The Broncos will be a disadvantage because they won't be able to expose that. Thomas is a big play threat but Decker is the kind of player that can get catches in the middle of the field. Any time Tebow loses a weapon it can't be a good thing. Denver will have to hope that the rest of the skill players can stay healthy. Otherwise, they will be in serious trouble.

Agreed been saying thomas is the big WR since november.
He's the reason I had the broncos and the over.
It's one less person for the pats to account for though which is huge. Of course the pats D can barely account for 1 WR as it is.

This is akin to Patriots losing their best running back.
