He did not run away, which is always a good sign. 7 a.m. is a rather strange time for an athlete to be up, unless he plays golf and had an early tee time. Most guys are sleeping it off at that time if they were partying the previous night.

I have had the pleasure of being around all the Stallworth boys while they were at Grant High School. They were always very respectful and showed a heart of gold. I can only imagine what everyone involved is going thru. His youngest brother is a Senior this season and he helped Grant High School win a State Title. They are a very hard working family who have respect for human life. I know this must be very hard on all the family's involved. RIP

It appears that he did nothing wrong. Accidents like this happen every day. It is sad, but sometimes these things can not be avoided.

Reports: NFL player's blood-alcohol over legal limit when he fatally hit pedestrian
Police deny releasing details MIAMI BEACH - Two local news outlets are reporting that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth was legally drunk last week when he struck and killed a man with his car. But Miami Beach Police, while not denying the reports, are emphatic about not confirming it, telling SunSentinel.com and other South Florida news operations that the reports are both "unconfirmed and unauthorized. Police spokeswoman Detective Jenny Velasquez told SunSentinel.com that her office was not the source of the information and no toxicology results have been released so far today. WSVN News is reporting that a toxicology report reveals Stallworth's blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit of 0.08. The Miami Herald is also reporting that Stallworth was drunk, citing an unnamed source familiar with the investigation. WSVN said it did not know how much over the limit Stallworth was. Related links Police say Stallworth, 28, was driving a Bentley and struck Mario Reyes, 59, who was getting off work as an overnight crane operator and trying to cross the street to catch a bus home just after 7 a.m. Saturday. He died at the scene. Officers drew Stallworth's blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is routine. The results won't be ready before the end of the week, police said earlier this week. Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation into the deadly crash at the southeast end of the MacArthur Causeway near South Beach. A video obtained by The Miami Herald on Sunday shows Stallworth being given a sobriety test by two Miami Beach police officers. The video shows Miami Beach rescue workers tending to Reyes. Stallworth is seen wearing jeans and a shirt and being questioned. Stallworth is cooperating with the investigation. He has not been charged. Reyes had worked all night at his job with the shipping company Bernuth Agencies, located just a short distance from the crash. Stallworth expressed his condolences to Reyes' family Wednesday. "My thoughts and prayers are with the Reyes family during this incredibly difficult time,'' Stallworth said, according to the Herald. SunSentinel.com staff writer Rafael Olmeda contributed to this report. |
