Chan Gailey removed as Kansas City OC

Not a good sign this close to the season opener

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have an uncertain quarterback situation because of a knee injury to Matt Cassel, said Monday that Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator.

The Chiefs would not say if Gailey's role has been reassigned or whether he will remain on the coaching staff, but they confirmed Gailey will no longer be running the offense for head coach Todd Haley.

At least the head coach is a big time offensive guy. They would be in real trouble if Haley was a defensive guy.

This isn't really a bad move. Gailey wasn't good last year and the offense has looked pathetic in the preseason. I don't think it can really get worse. If my ass were on the line, I'd do what Haley did.

Don't believe Haleys ass was on the line at least this year and I am surprised by this move. Chiefs were not going to be very good IMO anyways and why not use Gailey as the scapegoat at the end of this year and bring somebody in for next year. All this does is now make you look like another AFC counterpart in Oakland and look incompetent that you are making these type of decisions less than two weeks away from the opener when you had all of the offseason to figure this out.

Imagine 3 out of 4 teams in the same division who look completely incompetent right now, the Raiders, the Broncos and the Chiefs

Gailey was a holdover from the Herm era. It was only a matter of time before Haley, who is an offensive guy decided to make this move. The timing does surprise, but the move itself doesn't it. With the way the Chiefs offense played under Haley, it really couldn't get worse.

The Chiefs are a long way from looking like the Raiders. Don't get me wrong, the Chiefs are bad, but they have a few more screw ups to get Raiderized.
