Chris Schultz On Week 1...

8:30 PM Thursday, September 08, 2011
New Orleans Green Bay (-4.0) Schultz Picks: Green Bay:
------------------------------------------------------

What a way to start the season! The Packers have two big advantages Thursday. First, the home team has won every NFL opener since 2003, and this game is at Lambeau. Also, the Saints don't have any consistent pass rushers on the edge. The Packers do - watch out for Clay Matthews!

2011-12: 0-0-0

*I will post the rest of his picks on Friday.

Atlanta (-3.0) Chicago Schultz Picks: Atlanta:
--------------------------------------------

While it may same taboo to go against a home underdog early in the season, I can't help but think that Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez and Michael Turner will be able to score enough points. I'll take the Falcons to cover.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Cincinnati Cleveland (-6.5) Schultz Picks: Cleveland:
---------------------------------------------------

The Bengals are not only starting a rookie quarterback in Andy Dalton, but their top running back Cedric Benson just got out of jail. Divisional games are usually field goal games, but this one shouldn't be that close. I'll take the Browns.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Buffalo Kansas City (-5.5) Schultz Picks: Kansas City:
----------------------------------------------------

Running back Jamaal Charles had a breakout season last year and while he might not be as good this season, he'll still get his yards. The fact that the Bills were an NFL worst 32nd against the run last year doesn't hurt either. I'm taking the Chiefs.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Philadelphia (-4.5) St. Louis Schultz Picks: St. Louis:
---------------------------------------------------

The Rams went from a 1-17 two years ago, to a 7-9 team last year. I can seem them winning 10 games this year. While the Eagles were loud in free agency, the Rams made some quiet but effective moves. I thing the Eagles will win the game, but it won't be easy. I'm picking the Rams to cover.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Detroit Tampa Bay (-1.0) Schultz Picks: Tampa Bay:
---------------------------------------------------

This game will go a long way into showing whether or not the Lions are for real or not, as they have a road game against a youthful Bucs team that won 10 games last year. Josh Freeman had five fourth quarter comebacks last year, and I think he's got another one this week. I'll take the Buccaneers to win by three.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Tennessee Jacksonville (-3.0) Schultz Picks: Tennessee:
-------------------------------------------------------

In what was truly a bold move, Luke McCown is now the starting the quarterback in Jacksonville, replacing the recently cut David Garrard. If the move was based solely on the salary cap, the Jags deserve to lose this game. Look for Chris Johnson of the Titans to start earning his big pay cheque. I'm picking Tennessee.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Pittsburgh Baltimore (-2.5) Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh:
---------------------------------------------------

Logic says that points will be a premium this game as in the last six regular season games between these teams, the winner has scored 23 points or less. The Ravens have played seven road playoff games in the last three years, a lot of that has to do with the fact that they share a division with the Steelers. I'll take Pittsburgh.

1:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Indianapolis Houston (-9.0) Schultz Picks: Houston:
--------------------------------------------------

While nine points seems like a big spread, I believe that the Colts depend on Manning more than any other single player, without him they are a completely different team. I'll take the Texans.

4:15 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
NY Giants (-3.0) Washington Schultz Picks: NY Giants:
-----------------------------------------------------

While both teams will look to grind out a win in Week 1, I like the Giants running back combination of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw more than I like Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman. I'm going with the Giants.

4:15 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Carolina Arizona (-7.0) Schultz Picks: Arizona:
---------------------------------------------

Cam Newton will make his NFL debut in the same stadium where he won an NCAA Divisional Championship. I think the Cardinals will try to keep Newton in the pocket and test his quarterback skills as opposed to his athletic skills, and I believe they'll succeed. I'm taking the Cardinals.

4:15 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Minnesota San Diego (-5.5) Schultz Picks: San Diego:
----------------------------------------------------

The Chargers, who were a top five team in offense and defense last season are my Super Bowl pick this year, so I'm staying with them in Week 1. The fact that the Vikings are missing the good run stopping duo of Pat and Kevin Williams also helps a great deal. I'll take the Chargers.

4:15 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Seattle San Francisco (-5.5) Schultz Picks: Seattle:
--------------------------------------------------

Just because his brother John has done so well in Baltimore, doesn't mean that 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will have that same success. The Seahawks have pass protection and pass rush concerns, but I still think they'll be able to keep it close. I'm picking the Seahawks to cover the spread.

8:20 PM Sunday, September 11, 2011
Dallas NY Jets (-4.0) Schultz Picks: NY Jets:
-------------------------------------------

The Cowboys, who are starting two rookies and a second year player on their offensive line will be in tough against a Rex Ryan defence that will pressure the Cowboys at any and all times. For Dallas to have any chance, they'll have to limit the amount of long third downs, but I don't think they'll be able to. I'll take the Jets.

7:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2011
New England (-7.0) Miami Schultz Picks: New England:
-----------------------------------------------------

While it seems crazy to pick against a home underdog on Monday night, I just can't help myself. When you can out right cut Brandon Meriweather from your secondary, it tells me that you have something special that you're not talking about. I'll take the Patriots.

10:15 PM Monday, September 12, 2011
Oakland Denver (-3.0) Schultz Picks: Denver:
--------------------------------------------

Both teams come into the game needing to improve their run defence, with the Raiders being ranked 29th last season and the Broncos allowing 156 rushing yards a game in 2010. The advantage for Denver will be the edge passing rushing duo of Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller. I'll take the Broncos.
