Chris Schultz on Week #17

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Carolina @ Atlanta (-14.5) Schultz Picks: Atlanta:
-------------------------------------------------

Carolina will be a very popular football team over the next six months. They have the NFL's number one pick. I don't think Atlanta will play without urgency, too professional, too talented and too much to lose. Atlanta covers.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Pittsburgh (-6.0) @ Cleveland Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh:
------------------------------------------------------

Although Cleveland in the division does give the Steelers a competitive game consistently, the Steelers should be able to limit Peyton Hillis and make Colt McCoy beat them with or without Troy Polamalu. If the Steelers win, they would be NFC North champions and receive a first-round bye. Big motivation. Pittsburgh.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Minnesota @ Detroit (-7.0) Schultz Picks: Detroit:
------------------------------------------------

This is a tough one to assess because I don't know if Joe Webb at QB for Minnesota is that good or just had a good day against the Eagles. What I do know is that Detroit has progressively improved and has won their last three games. Detroit covers.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Oakland @ Kansas City (-4.0) Schultz Picks: Kansas City:
-------------------------------------------------------

Think about it, with 10 wins, the Chiefs have equaled their win total from 2007 to 2009. It is hard to assess how Todd Haley will play everybody as they do have a playoff game to look forward to. Still, undefeated at home does generate pride. KC covers.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Miami @ New England (-3.0) Schultz Picks: New England:
-------------------------------------------------------

The Dolphins will end this season 1-7 at home, but if they beat New England, they would be a very impressive 7-1 on the road. For New England it is about staying healthy working toward a divisional playoff at home. The Patriots have excellent depth and a 14-2 2010 season would be the best in the NFL. NE covers 3.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Tampa Bay @@ New Orleans (-8.0) Schultz Picks: Tampa Bay:
------------------------------------------------------------

This game is important for the Bucs. Not only to keep playoff participation alive, but to hit the magic number of 10 wins in one year of football. I do think the Saints will win, but I also think Tampa Bay has improved as the season has progressed. Bucs keep it close.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Buffalo @ NY Jets (-3.0) Schultz Picks: NY Jets:
-----------------------------------------------

In all likelihood Mark Sanchez will not play, or be limited, but the Jets still have the power running of Tomlinson and Green. Seven teams have run for over 200 yards this year on the Bills. Take the Jets.

1:00 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Cincinnati @ Baltimore (-9.5) Schultz Picks: Cincinnati:
-----------------------------------------------------

I find it interesting that without Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, Carson Palmer had his best game of the year as the Bengals beat San Diego 34-20. Baltimore is 17-1 against teams with records under .500, but there are too many points on the line here. Bengals.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Jacksonville (-2.5) @ Houston Schultz Picks: Jacksonville:
--------------------------------------------------------

It is amazing to think that the Jacksonville Jaguars have a running back like Maurice Jones-Drew, who has 1,324 yards, and the Texans have an RB like Arian Foster (1,436 yards). Unless Indianapolis implodes, both of these teams will not make the playoffs. Take Jacksonville.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
NY Giants (-4.0) @ Washington Schultz Picks: NY Giants:
-------------------------------------------------------

The Redskins under Rex Grossman have played two good games - a 33-30 loss in Dallas and a 20-17 win in Jacksonville. But, I have to be influenced by a win and the urgency that the Giants must feel. Giants to cover.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Dallas @ Philadelphia (-12.0) Schultz Picks: Dallas:
-------------------------------------------------

I was amazed to watch Joe Webb, a former receiver lead Minnesota to a 24-10 win in Philly. I doubt that the Eagles will play Michael Vick, and I would not be surprised if Steve McGee played the entire game. 12 points is too much for me. Dallas.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Arizona @ San Francisco (-6.5) Schultz Picks: Arizona:
-----------------------------------------------------

Rookie John Skelton is 2-1 as a starter after the 27-26 win over Dallas. But the Cardinals did score 14 off two interceptions in that game. I don't think either team will dominate and even with the absence of Mike Singletary, how the 49ers respond with one game to go is a mystery. Arizona.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Chicago @ Green Bay (-6.5) Schultz Picks: Green Bay:
----------------------------------------------------

I think Green Bay is one of the most dangerous teams heading to the 2011 Playoffs. Aaron Rodgers at home has a passer rating of 115 and a touchdown-to-interception rating of 18-5. Packers.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
Tennessee @ Indianapolis (-9.5) Schultz Picks: Indianapolis:
----------------------------------------------------------

I don't think the Colts are going to waste one moment in this game. I expect them to attack relentlessly and if they can win by 40, and win the AFC South...again. Colts.

4:15 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
San Diego (-3.5) @ Denver Schultz Picks: Denver:
------------------------------------------------

Another opportunity for Tim Tebow to establish himself as a legitimate Plan B to Kyle Orton. The first Denver-San Diego game was an easy 35-14 Chargers win. It was a different motivation for the Chargers back then compared to right now. Denver.

8:20 PM Sunday, January 02, 2011
St. Louis (-1.0) @ Seattle Schultz Picks: St. Louis:
--------------------------------------------------

The Seattle Seahawks have lost three in a row, and they were not even competitive. 40-21 at San Francisco, 34-18 at home against Atlanta, and 38-15 at Tampa Bay. The last time they played the Rams, it was 20-3 in St. Louis and Charlie Whitehurst should be the QB this time for Seattle. Take the Rams.
