Chris Schultz on Wek 17
1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012
San Francisco (-10.5) @ St. Louis Schultz Picks: San Francisco: -------------------------------------------------------------- The 49ers have posted wins on great defense, good special teams and an offense that does just enough. The Rams' run defence is dead-last in the league. The 49ers should be able to control the game, all day long. Take the 49ers to cover the 10.5. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 NY Jets @ Miami (-1.0) Schultz Picks: Miami: -------------------------------------------- It's hard to assess the mentality of the Jets going into this game. They need help from four other teams to make the playoffs, leaving their chances very slim. The Dolphins have two good conerbacks and "box overload" is very likely to take away the ground game, making it difficult for the Jets to get on the board. Reggie Bush has started all 16 games and is well over 1,000 yards. Miami covers the point at home. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Chicago (-1.0) @ Minnesota Schultz Picks: Chicago: --------------------------------------------------- This is a tough one. Both teams are dealing with injuries and have consistency issues at quarterback. This late in the season home-field advantage is big for the Vikings, but I liked the way the Bears showed up in Green Bay. I think they will do it again... take Da Bears! 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Buffalo @ New England (-12.5) Schultz Picks: New England: ---------------------------------------------------------- The Bills scored 21 points on two interceptions and an eighty-yard punt return against Denver last week. That will not happen again. New England was down 17-0 at half-time to Miami last week, so they would like a solid game going into their first-round bye week. With limited pass pressure on Tom Brady, I think he will be able to pick and choose his targets. The Pats cover the points and get ready for the "new" season. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Carolina @ New Orleans (-8.0) Schultz Picks: New Orleans: --------------------------------------------------------- No other team has the depth of receivers and running backs the Saints enjoy. The Saints' "back-up” players could be starters on many other teams. I think Sean Payton will play Drew Brees into the second half. Take the Saints to cover and finish 13-3. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Detroit @ Green Bay (-4.0) Schultz Picks: Detroit: ------------------------------------------------ If I were Mike McCarthy I would play Aaron Rodgers only one series and that's it. For Detroit, they can move to fifth place and then play the fourth best NFC team in round one, so it's a game worth playing your starters for. I think Detroit will play it tough, expect the Lions to keep it close. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Washington @ Philadelphia (-9.0) Schultz Picks: Philadelphia: ----------------------------------------------------------- Both teams are out of the playoffs but the Eagles have a shot at an 8-8 season. Considering at one point the team was 4-8, the improvement could transfer over to next season. Washington has already posted its third consecutive season with at least 10 losses. I like the Eagles to cover. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Indianapolis @ Jacksonville (-4.0) Schultz Picks: Indianapolis: ------------------------------------------------------------ Could you imagine if the colts had started Dan Orlovsky instead of Curtis Painter from the start? The only positive for Jacksonville is that Maurice Jones-Drew should win the NFL rushing crown on a 4-11 team. Indy will play it tough. Take the Colts. 1:00 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Tennessee (-3.0) @ Houston Schultz Picks: Tennessee: ------------------------------------------------------ Houston know they will host a playoff game next week. So, why would they take risks to ensure an 11-win season? The Titans have a very outside shot at making the playoffs. The last time Houston played in Tennessee, the Texans had 518 yards while giving up only 148. Not this time. Take Tennessee to cover the spread. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Seattle @ Arizona (-3.0) Schultz Picks: Arizona: ---------------------------------------------- Both teams enter Sunday with a 7-8 record, but the Cardinals are playing their best right now. After starting 1-6 they are have gone 6-2 over their last eight. It's a tough decision between John Skelton and Kevin Kolb at quarterback, but being at home in Week 17 could make the difference. Arizona covers the three points. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 San Diego (-3.0) @ Oakland Schultz Picks: Oakland: --------------------------------------------------- I can't figure San Diego out. The Chargers beat Baltimore 34-14, then lost to Detroit 38-10. After beating the Raiders 13 straight games, it is the Raiders that have won the last three. Oakland will move to 8-8 and win the AFC South. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Tampa Bay @ Atlanta (-12.0) Schultz Picks: Atlanta: ---------------------------------------------------- The Bucs had just eight turnovers in their first six games... that's not bad. In the last nine games, however, they've given the ball away 28 times. Atlanta needs to get its confidence back. Considering the Bucs have allowed 31 points or more in each of their last four games, this is the game to do it. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Baltimore (-2.5) @ Cincinnati Schultz Picks: Cincinnati: ----------------------------------------------------- The Ravens have only four losses this year and all four of them came on the road. The Ravens have been dynamite at home but have been beatable away from Baltimore. I say the pattern continues and the Bengals make the playoffs. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Pittsburgh (-8.5) @ Cleveland Schultz Picks: Cleveland: ------------------------------------------------------ Mike Tomlin has a tough decision ahead of him. The Steelers can put a lot of pressure on the Ravens if they win, forcing Baltimore to win their game to win the NFC North. But Pittsburgh also has key players that need time to get ready for the playoffs. I don't think you will see the Steelers' best 22. I think they're saving that for playoff time. I like Cleveland on points. 4:15 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Kansas City @ Denver (-3.5) Schultz Picks: Kansas City: ------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Orton returns to the team that cut him for in favour of Tim Tebow. Could revenge be on his mind? Kansas City is playing harder for Romeo Crennel than they did for Todd Haley, and the only reason Denver won the first game between these two was 244 rushing yards. Tebow completed only two passes back on Nov. 13. There will be no repeat of that game. I like the Chiefs and Orton to kick Denver out of first place. 8:30 PM Sunday, January 01, 2012 Dallas @ NY Giants (-3.0) Schultz Picks: NY Giants: -------------------------------------------------- Three weeks ago these two teams combined for 712 passing yards. I doubt it will happen again but statistics are not really relevant going into the final week. The Giants express confidence to me, whereas Dallas is still making mental errors in the secondary 15 games into the season. As tough as it is to say, it seems that New York wants this one more. Desire can go a long way come January and I see it in New York, not so much in Dallas. The Giants will cover the three and win the NFC East. |

Yes, overall it's unimpessive but playing the whole game slate week in and week out will do this to anybody. His Top 3 or 4 weekly picks are money though.

Very square which is usually bad news in the final week.

If Detroit wins, Atlanta is not going to risk a key injury in a meaningless game. I would grab Tampa Bay and the points.
